Google Norton removal tool, download it from the site and follow the on screen instructions. This will get Norton out of your PC completely. I did this and it’s gone. Not a trace of it left anywhere. I ended up opting for Free anti virus and anti spyware to replace Norton and have never regretted it. I use the default Windows firewall. AVG 7.5 and Spybot Search and Destroy and have never had a single virus or spyware problem since installation.
Symantec tool will not remove the 375 fragments left behind in your system.
You must not be aware of what Nortons does, being it is pure garbage. When you go to you add/remove, you only think that you have removed Nortons. You will be surprised to find that you are left with over 375 fragments of Nortons glued to all of your registry keys, files/folders and subsystem.
You can start by going to your tray and start, run and thep in c://program files and click on browse, click on program files and look for Nortons & Symantec, (Not sure of the spelling). And try and delete both of them. (If they say write protected or is being use by another file, reboot and try again). If you still are unable to delete, email me and I will direct you to a free software that removes write protected files. Plus I will give you indepth instructions on how to delete.
Next go to start, search and type in: Nortons, and let your pc scan for all related files with the name Nortons. Delete from top to the bottom. If some files don’t delete, reboot and try again. Now type in Symantec, and let your pc searc for all related files with Symantec name. Try and delete all these files from top to bottom.
All the fragments left behind cause serious confict with your system.
If you consider yourself an expert, do this last. If you don’t consider yourself an expert with computer don’t mess with your registry. Go to start run, and type in: regedit, click on "OK", and you registry will appear. Open HKEY CURRENT USER, OPEN SOFTWARE AND LOOK FOR NORTONS, DETELE AND LOOK FOR SYMANTEC AND DELETE. AGAIN ONLY IF YOU KNOW FOR SURE WHAT YOU ARE DOING. IF YOU REMOVE THE WRONG REGISTRY KEYS, YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU MAY HAVE TO REINSTALL YOUR ENTIRE PLATFORM.

well, the only way to TRULY REMOVE IT is to reinstall the operating system, but, you should go into the "Program Files" file in the c drive, find the "Symantec" folder and delete as much of it as you can, becaus you cant get rid of it all. then, search your computer for anything with "Norton" or "Symantec" in the file name, and delete as much of it as possible. because like i said, cant get rid of it all.
i don’t suggest using the norton uninstall tools you can find at symantec and on the web, because they leave between 2,500 and 50,000 entries in your registry, slowing down your computer.
just suggestions.
HTH (hope this helps)!!!!
