I just recently bought a brand new Studio Laptop from Dell which has Windows Vista Home Premium, which I love. I’m having a hard time trying to decide on the best antivirus protection software for it. Any suggestions?

ask 10 people, and you get 10 different answers – usually without a real explaination why this is the best one.
i would say it does not really matter which one you use, as long as you use one. sometimes symantec detects a threat first, then its avast or someone else… they are all fast now with their definitions, usually they are just a few hours apart.
but of course i have one to recommend, if you want to pay for it – norton 2009 is the fastest scanner with the least resources ( i know they had a bad reputation for a long time, but the 2009 version is great – check online for test results )
Definitely AVG free edition.
Many viruses target other virus scanners like Mcafee and Norton and they suck when they keep bugging you with warnings.
Also its free so whats better..
Personally I have several free ones. Some scanners detect viruses others don’t.
I use AVG free version, Ad-aware free version, Spybot Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes
Only ever had a virus once in a year and that’s pretty good.
Webroot. I love it! So easy to use and works well with Vista. Spyware and Antivirus all in one.
McAffee and Norton are both said to have compatibility issues with Vista.
Panda global protection 2010
Avira is my only choice! She has proven herself over and over again to be the very best…
Find a copy of Symantec Endpoint Protection. It’s not cheap, but it works. I have installed this on a number of networks that had used competing products and many viruses were found. It incorporates spyware protection too.
For malware, go to malwarebytes.org.
http://www.Avast.com …. they make constant updates.
and a Firewall !! -you MUST get this also!
at http://www.pctools.com
Stay away from mcafee and absolutely from norton. Consider also a spyware. look at http://www.google.com and on the blanlkline type the word malware and hit enter.
Only run one antivirus. If two or more, they definitely conflict with each other and will skip over/miss a virus. AND make sure you shut off your built-in antivirus that comes with Vista, if you get another one. Go to click on-Start, then Control Panel to get to this choice item on Vista.
And do not mix Vista and Threat Fire until they straighten out their compatibly issue….next year?….or ever? p.s.: do not download any porn, a virus haven for them, and there’s viruses there that can get through a firewall and around an antivirus program.
Having trouble now?…run http://www.malwarebytes.com and click on the Red cnet. free. install it, and run the Full Scan. It will run/look for trouble for a good 1/2 hr.
.
Kaspersky…one of the best.
NOT PERSONAL ANTIVIRUS (PAV) I CAN TELL YOU THAT! IT’S A FAKE ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM THAT ACTUALLY IS A VIRUS!
The best would probably be one that costs you money so you know it’s not a fake… and even then you HAVE to be careful!
Just thought I’d let you know… other than that I am not qualified to answer this question.

The best free antivirus is Avira. It has then best detection rate and uses the least amount of system resources.
http://www.free-av.com/
I also suggest getting Malwarebytes and running a scan every couple of days to find and delete spyware and other infections.

If you have a trial of Norton or Mcafee or another antivirus running you must uninstall it before you install a different one. Running two antivirus programs may lock up your computer.
Try Avast anti-virus it is also free, and a very good program.
Norton Antivirus 2009.
It is the best antivirus program for a computer and it can ensure up to three computers in a household. The program ranges from $30-$40 at best buy. Hope this helps
Do no get Norton nor McAfee i would go with Avast, it’s a small user friendly program that won’t use as much of your system’s resources as it’s expensive competitors and it’s FREE!
try kaspersky, bitdefender, or avg
or common sense
go for avg free. as millions of customers satisfied with this. y can’t give it a try?
Norton Anti Virus, Spy-bot Search And Destroy, Malwarebytes Anti Malware
AVG is a good choice, but personally I prefer AvastAntivirus (just be sure to get the free version of Avast)
Also, be sure to keep in mind that a good antivirus software is no substitute for common sense.
free.avg.com
Avast anti-virus its free and cool
If your willing and able to pay for it The Shield Deluxe 2009 is 19.99 and powered by BitDefender always a top 10 but, if free is your route I would go with avg as the main scanner but, avast’s free cleening tool will clean better than avg
use norton. don’t use the free ones cause they have viruses or spyware. or you can install linux cuz it has no viruses.
