Can someone tell me, pls? I’m trying to buy an antivirus software for my new laptop but I’m totally spoilt by choices. Tell me the software of your choice and why.

P/S: ESET, Norton, Kaspersky, Avira and Dr.Web, are they effective?

I use Avast. It’s totally free (you have to register, but you don’t have to pay anything) and its kept me virus free on my windows machines for years.

My choice is Micro Trend Antivirus and then for spyware Webroot Spy Sweeper. You can find these for a lot less that the commercialized brands and they work better too. These are the tools Geek Squad uses at Best Buy but make sure to tell them you want a copy and you will install it yourself.

Mc Afee is the best as far as i know.
Norton and AVG are also quite good.

i’d go with AVG free. it works as good as the full version, and can be downloaded at"AVG.com"

norton is as good as a virus and kaspersky isnt very effective.

i personally use avg and have never had problems with it.

Trend Micro Antivirus is very good, but Clamwin is free

For my guess you should get the firewall, Panda Internet Security 2008
which helps computer scan anything and virus or the best one is McAfee is helps in any situation you have. The norton is bad because i bought and it slows your computer but the rests are okay but these were some favorites.
