I’ve been using AVG but all it picks up is tracking cookies.
I’m pretty that my computer is infested with other things because i’m always downloading stuff from limewire etc.

What’s a program that i can download that picks the majority of viruses and spyware?
One with a free trial so i can see how well it works before i buy it?

AVG has a free edtion. It’s not bad, AVG is decent.

For a trail version, I recommend Norton Antivirus 2009. It’s very slim, so it doesn’t slow down your computer, and it’s good at detecting malware and viruses.

AVG is usually a pretty good anti-virus and anti-spyware defender; make sure you’re running the latest version. But when it comes to spyware, it usually pays to have a few different tools in your toolbox. Some of the best are Spyware Terminator, Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, and Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition. Spyware Terminator can even be integrated with a free anti-virus client called Clam AV (if you enable this protection, it will download it automatically). If you choose to do this, however, be sure to completely uninstall AVG; having two real-time virus monitors active simultaneously is a recipe for trouble. All of the programs listed here are freeware (paid versions may be available, but they are OPTIONAL; there is no limit on use of the free versions except for missing certain advanced features) and can be downloaded from http://www.download.com .

Another alternative is Comodo Internet Security, a free bundle that has optional virus protection, as well as firewall and system protection. Again, uninstall AVG if you choose to use its real-time virus protection. You can read more about the program’s features and download it here: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html . You can choose which features to activate during the installation.
