I just bought my 17 year old daughter a laptop and am wondering what would be a
good antivirus software to buy. Something that won’t slow the computer down much would be nice also. The system configurations of her laptop are listed below. Thanks . P.S. If you are an apple person please keep your opinions to your selves : )

Kaspersky is the best but it can slow your computer a bit or no… depends. If u dont want to spend some time downloading it and trying just get eset nod32. Rly well working software and it is rly not big.

Without a doubt go for kaspersky internet security — it is the best security software in the market

    That’s a matter of opinion.

Try ‘em out for FREE from CNET.com.

Stick with the one you like, but only have one ‘active’ at a time as they may conflict with each other.

With 4 Gigs of RAM, you won’t have a problem, especially if you set it to scan at an ‘off-hours’ time, like 3AM. Remember to have the comp. in ‘sleep’ mode at such a time.

What slows a PC down (usually), is the fact that there is not enough RAM in the system, this forces the CPU (Central Processing Unit) to invoke VRAM (Virtual Random Access Memory). This is when the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) is used as RAM. It is slow because the HDD has moving parts, the RAM chips (sticks) do not.

All ‘them-thar’ other specs means nothing if the RAM isn’t ‘up-to-snuff’.

Don’t use free AVG it has no rootkit protection.

good antivirus software to buy. Something that won’t slow the computer down much would be nice also – Eset Nod32 or Kaspersky.

    Tip:

    Your PC is 64-bit, read:

    http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/41531554-d5ef-4f2c-8fb9-149bdc5c8a701033.mspx

Most programs designed for a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows will work on a computer running 64-bit versions of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs, and some hardware drivers.

if u like to spend for antivirus, better choose kaspersky or norton

free antivirus such as avast, avira, are good.

  • wazimu says:

Kasperskey Internet Security. I use one.

Its very good (many virus definitions), fast, light, parental control etc etc

NB:The case is still arguable coz there are other good antivirus SW eg NOD32, McAfee, bitdefender

AVG 8.5 Free Edition works fine for me. I use it on a system with much lower specifications, and its quite fast.
