Im on the internet all the time, playing with myspace and face book.
That’s about all I do. My son is on his computer with U-Tube all the time.

Couple years back I went out and bought a virus software back age, was insane price,
had the license for a year, and renewed for a few yrs after. And than it was done. And so am I with that.

So I’d like some advice on something reliable and totally free to USE (not just to download)
that will be good for ERRORS and BOTS/TROJANS on your COMPUTER & for your INTERNET browsing.

If you could recommend one for both virus and one for spyware, that is totally free to use –
I would so much appreciate it.

Unfortunately, no anti-virus software has a 100% detection rate. Therefore, no one program, in and of itself, is sufficient. Added protection is a necessity. I recommend Avast 5.0 for your anti-virus and Malwarebytes for added protection. Both are excellent programs and are free. The only issue with the free version of Malwarebytes is that you must manually update it prior to each scan. However, that is just a click of the mouse. No big deal for such a great program. I would add that a recent study attributes 61% of all infections to MySpace and Facebook. Just for your info.*

Edit: The answer above adds that Avast offers only basic coverage. If he/she means real-time protection including seven shields, boot-scans, heuristics scans, a built in firewall, malware, spyware and virus protection, automatic updates and many other features then I suppose the answer is correct.

Get the free Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware:

Some would recommend Avast or AVG or Avira or Comodo. They are also good and have free versions but only offer basic protection.

There are no best antivirus software, but i can recommend you some good free antivirus applications that can help you: Panda Cloud Antivirus Free Edition is a free anti malware software that offers real-time protection, Avira AntiVir Personal, Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and BitDefender Free Edition.
It is not recommended to use multiple antivirus software simultaneously, choose one of these of other free antivirus application and test it.

SUPER AntiSpyware is a very good program. There is a FREE version here, just look under Popular Links for the FREE version: http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE

I think you aren’t given real-time protection if you use the free version. But, for ONE day they will offer you the program’s professional version for $19.95 with FREE lifetime updates. That’s a pretty good deal! I have used SpySweeper, Malwarebytes, Spyware Blaster and SUPER AntiSpyware has been the best so far. It constantly gets updates, if you set it to check every day, but won’t freeze up your computer or hog its RAM or memory.

Zone Alarm offers a really good basic firewall which is also FREE, but, if you want to protect your computer and its contents and not have a trojan or bot ruin your hard drive, buy Zone Alarm Firewall with Anti-Virus. It might be $30 or $40 a year but it will save you a headache in the long run.

The free Zone Alarm Basic firewall is here: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm

Zone Alarm Firewall with AntiVirus is here: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-antivirus-software.htm

    Hope this helps.

    Anti-virus: Avast 5
    Anti-Spyware: Ad-Aware and add either Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware or SUPERAnti-Spyware.
These programs are free (and have paid versions) at CNET http://www.download.com
