Hi, I’m going to Illinois Institute of Technology next year. I’m going to specialize in the aerospace engineering program, so I’m going to need programs like Auto-CAD and other large software programs (how much does Auto-CAD take up anyway?). And I suppose I’ll be doing presentations and stuff like that in the near future.
On a personal note, I want a laptop that I can use to burn cds and dvds, handle torrents of downloads, store a LOT of pictures, and watch movies from the internet and DVDs in great, crisp picture quality. I know that the Intel Core 2 Duo is the best right now, but what kind of processor do I NEED for all my stuff? What is the best processor speed, lb cache, etc.? Should I get an Intel 4500 MD graphics card or something better? What is the best sized hard drive for everything I want to do? And last question: is it better to buy a configured laptop online with things like microsoft office pre-installed, or is it better to buy my laptop from the store and buy ms office/ anti-virus separately?

I appreciate any and all help I receive for my questions.

the 500gb 5400 rpm western digital hard drive costs like 100 dollars and is very good. for cad you need discrete graphics like nvidia and ati. Any 2.2 or more dual core intel will do, the more the better. i looked up the highest requirements for engineering i think and it says you need 4gb ram,15" screen, dvd burning capability, 2.53 l2 6mb processor but i think all that aint necessary. hm maybe a thinkpad t500 or w500? dell?

    check the above article.
-Autocad requires a good video card, ask for a dedicated graphics card not the internal one.
-Go for Intel, the latest ones, like core2 processor.
-Just ask the latest model regardless of the brands.
-for the memory the higher the size the better, at least 4 GB mem.
-harddrive, I think 250GB is the minimum nowadays.
