I have "Spy Guard 2008" on my computer (I do believe it’s malicious spyware stuff) and I need to get rid of it and it’s components. I want to BUY a top notch virus cleaner/protector for WINDOWS XP. I haven’t had a paid subscription to virus protection for a couple years now. I need something spectacular that will clean my computer and protect me.
Should I buy Norton or McAfee? Which versions? Or is there something else out there that would fit my situation? Please be honest, and I appreciate your help!

I think the one I have installed on my computer is McAfee, but it hasn’t been renewed since I first bought my computer.
Any sites that have to do with virus protection WON’T LOAD! It keeps saying "page error"….what does this mean?!?!
Tried installing the search and destroy spyware…got this message:
"error sending request.
a connection with the server could not be established."

Dont pay for one there are plenty of free ones. Try Malwarebytes, AVG and Spybot.
Norton and mcafee slow down your computer quite alot. they are ok but deffinately dont pay for them.
(If you cant get on the websites it might be a virus stopping you, Restart your computer and whille it is starting up keep pressing F8, When the menu comes up select "Safe mode with networking" and try to download them again)
You can get really good results from FREE spyware removers. Spybot S&D, AdAware from Lavasoft, and Avast antivirus (free with registration). These tools have worked well for me and others. Try these solutions before you buy anything.

Avoid Norton and McAfee.

Go for Norton. It is the only one that is keeping the new virus out the others are not, check it out on Snopes.
