I just bought a new hp desktop 6 days ago with amd athlon 5600+ windows vista home premium 3 gb ram 500 gb sata hard drive im not really quite sure but i think the video memory is only 128 mb… the computer comes with a free 60 day trial to use norton but this sunday i will have a comcast provider for internet and they have that service that comes with mcafee and my computer has that windows defender thing not quite sure what the differences are but the people that sold the comp to us warned us to buy a antivirus software because they’re computer got attacked by viruses or either got hacked and needed to buy a new one…

P.s. I havent used the free 60 day norton thing I dont really have internet yet im waitin for comcast and either today or tomorrow i will buy a new antivirus/spyware software for my comp…

I have researched all anti-virus products and the best anti-virus protection is Kaspersky. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 is just as good if not better, it runs faster and has less software conflicts but may be more difficult to use.

The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.

Recent tests prove Kaspersky and NOD32 are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (av-comparatives.org).

Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you’re having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three. If you want a free anti-virus Avira has higher detection rates than AVG or Avast! (94.26%).

I’ve tried most of the trials so far the norton I think is the way to go. There is another completely free copy of an anti virus that is pretty good its called Avast anti-virus as I said it is freeware so for the money, if I needed one fast, I’d take the avast.

Hi there! If you do low to medium net surfing then AVG (the free one) will do you fine. Also, I would use Mozilla Firefox to surf rather than IE due to the fact that most spyware/adware tends to target IE’s security holes. Irregardless, you should still have a combo solution (AVG/Threatfire/Comodo Firewall for example) since the virus/spyware problems you will encounter will attack your system from multiple vectors.

If you do a lot of surfing (i.e. PXXX – the shame of it all :/) then it might be in your best interest to buy a commercial pack that combines everything (i.e. Panda Internet security) . Any more questions please ask. Good Luck!

You can try Ad Aware, Spy bot – search and destroy and Spy ware Doctor for some good spy ware removers. AVG Anti virus and McAfee virus scan are also supposed to help a lot to remove virus. check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8erIoh.ENhksr2KyG for more details.
