What brand is better for a laptop? Dell or Apple?
I want to use this laptop for school (writing assignments), and i want it last, i don’t want a crappy one. I like the Apple brand, and they have great service, whereas Dell doesn’t. I have a Dell desktop, and it’s not that it’s bad, but when i decided to purchase it, what attracted me to them was their cheap price, l(799.99.) But i ended up paying like 00.00 b/c i got sucked in by the sales guy, who said to me "well you also need this, and that……" and ever since i regretted not buying a laptop. And my friend bought a Dell laptop, and within 4 months of having it, she got a virus, and they couldn’t repair it for her. I am only considering the dell b/c of it’s prices, and people tell me it’s good. I have never had a laptop, so i wanted to ask people who have had experience with purchasing various laptops before.
Thank You

Hey, Pumpkin!
I hope I didn’t write too much! This info should really help!
I read through your problem and I think I have an answer for you.
It seems like you would want a good computer, based on you prior experiences. In this case, I believe you should get an Apple computer, also known as a Mac.
First off, it seemed like you were distraught about viruses getting to your computer. Most PCs (such as Dells) are very prone to viruses. Some viruses you get on a PC are irreversible and unfixable. On a Mac, it is IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A VIRUS, TROJAN HORSE, SPYWARE, ADWARE, MALWARE, or WORM. IT IS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE. This is due to:
1) Macs being more reliable
2) A whole different type of base code which makes it technically impossible for a Mac to get a virus.
Also, you are going to be wanting a fast computer. MACS ARE EXTREMELY FAST! In some cases, Macs are UP TO TWO TIMES FASTER THAN PCs! Dells are usually known to be unreliable. Furthermore, the chips in Dells are slower as well. MACS USE TOP OF THE LINE DUAL-CORE INTEL PROCESSORS! You are really not going to want a slow PC for you writing assignments, so for you a Mac would be great.
Additionally, MACS CAN RUN BOTH OS X (the amazing Mac operating system) AND WINDOWS. For example, if you ever need Windows for one of you school assignments, Macs can run both. Also, you get all of the functionality and speed of a Mac but on Windows. With a Mac, you can’t go wrong.
Lastly, service is AMAZING ON A MAC! Consistantly in surveys, Apple leads the way in customer satisfaction. If you have a problem, Apple’s amazing technical support will help you. Personally, I have experienced both Dell’s support and Apple’s support. Apple is amazing. AND REAL PEOPLE CAN HELP YOU TOO! If you drop by too one of your Apple stores, workers (called Mac Geniuses) will assist you with your problem flawlessly for no charge. Here is proof:

So, lastly, I hope you make the right choice with you computer. Macs are some of the best computers out there. Don’t make the mistake that millions of people have around the world. That is: buying PCs. I have used both Macs and PCs in my lifetime. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: PCs are unreliable, Macs are the way to go. I hope you take my word into consideration, and I leave you with this quote:
MAC USERS SWEAR BY THEIR COMPUTERS, PC USERS SWEAR AT THEIR COMPUTERS!

P.S. - There are countless other websites I could give you, but they all say one thing: Macs rule. There are countless testimonies from filmmakers, tech writers from newspapers, and tech-savvy people.
Well, depends on what OS you want to deal with.
When you talk about brands then i guess since Dell is not the actual manufacturer,as I have personally worked for Dell hardware support. They just assemble the systems with various components from different brands however Apple is a trusted name even with the notebook…also its much safer to be used in regards to virus infections and internet connectvity is much safer in a Apple notebook. So would always vote for Apple……
It is more than brands it is different systems. %90 of LTs sold are PCs over apples, generally they are more compatible with windows sotware. The new Dells have been getting great reviews but I had the same problem with the Dell reps. Went to Best Buy and picked up a HP at a great price. The sales person was overly agressive but I could walk out.
Apple, hands down. I have been using a PowerBook G4 for about 4 years now. I bought it because I had first bought a Dell and within the first couple of hours of using it picked up a virus that would not allow me to stay online rendering the laptop useless. I imediedtly returned it and got a Mac. Haven’t had any virus, spyware, malware, or anything else on it ever since.
Macs are expensive but thats because you can use it for several years without having to upgrade anything. And it won’t break.
Get a Mac.
These are two different beasts. The Mac OS is way different from windows. Yes most viruses are written for windows and not mac. Either will do what you want it to but it’s your opinion that counts here. Windows that is protected is a good OS. Your friends problem of getting a virus is more Her fault then Dells. I haven’t found any virus that can’t get fixed or worst case reformat and reload system.
well warranties usually dont cover viruses.
depends what other things you will be doing with it, for most people it comes down to if it will play the games you want.
Get a Mac.
