Yesterday,I bought a new SATA of 160GB.I downloaded AVG 7.5,Comodo BoClean.I have Windows XP Service Pack 3,IE 7 and WMP 11.Today,I downloaded Malwarebytes.What do you guys prefer-Malwarebytes Or BoClean ?Thanks in advance for your assistance.I have Win Firewall Enabled.

I haven’t been able to visit any Microsoft sites for awhile, and most recently my computer became infected with the latest Antivirus 2010 variant (that fake MS look-alike where they try to get you to buy their "anti-virus software"). Anyways, it was incredibly hard to remove it (it wouldn’t let me access any anti-virus sites, and even after successfully downloading them from mirrors, it wouldn’t let me run them), but I finally got rid of it (I did this by killing the associated processes at start-up before the malware had a chance to fully load, and then running real anti-virus software).

Now, the problem is that my browser (both Chrome and Firefox) still cannot access anti-virus sites, as well as microsoft.com, so something leftover from the malware is still blocking these sites. Additionally, I noticed that it is blocking the "update definitions" function in AVG, etc. anti-virus programs from working (I had to use a proxy to download the latest updates).

To reiterate, I don’t have a virus/malware anymore–at least no desktop-based symptoms, and AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, etc. run clean tests, HOWEVER certain websites (anti-virus websites, microsoft.com, etc.) are still inaccessible to me in Chrome and Firefox. Where is the leftover underlying cause for this, and how do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance!

I just bought a macbook like 3 months ago and I have had no problems not using any ant-virus/spyware program. However, the other day I clicked on a link (that looked harmless to me) but when I clicked it a bunch of windows pop up and my email was loaded with outbox mail. I had to go and then delete all that junk.
So do you use a antivirus, anti-spyware/adware program or not? If so, Which one? and what do you think was loaded on my computer when I clicked on that link?? adware? Do you think what I deleted was enough or do I need to load some kind of program to check/clean it out??

I’m new to all of this and would like some details on how to get free protection i can download, right now i have a free trial from norton and it will detect viruses if i do a scan but it will not remove any if any are found. So basically i want to know if there is anything free that will both detect and remove viruses? Thanks in advance.

Hi whenever i go on youtube and click on a video… it redirects me to another link like searchmachiner.com and some other weird sites.
I downloaded AVG and removed stuff but i still have this problem

Hey everyone, I really need some help!! I don’t know much about computers (not good for the field im in) and my computers recently been infected with this Alpha Anti virus. I found the software on PC Tools to remove it, but I am scared to purchase the software in fear that the virus will obtain my credit card information. When the software scanned my computer, I saw that the virus had what i believe to be a Trojan key stroke attachment? Which i believe tracks your info. the purchase would be done on a secure site, and should eliminate my problem. I just don’t wanna screw myself. Thanks in advance

My sister was opening a youtube, then suddenly got a msg from Norton anti virus saying that yr pc is infected by a virus, though the Norton Anti virus full package was on and running, the weird thing then the Anti virus was turned off!! I had to re Key the product key again to activate it, and after that the word docs are gone with this message, I asked Norton people they said they’re willing to remove the virus and try to restore the files and be charged with 0, I bought the whole package with this amount so i refused, can’t afford it now, what’s the best solution… is the virus still in, should i re install everything again, the operation system and the other applications,, pls advise.

If I download limewire to an external hard drive and download all the songs and load it on the external hard drive, will it work or do I have to install limewire on my laptop. I just want a seperate hard drive so that if it gets virus infected, my laptop will be safe. Is this possible? Also tips and method using limewire to be virus free will be very much appreciated. I’m buying a laptop now. I’m not sure if i should go with a Mac or a standard notebooks. I like the Mac video editing features and the photobooth stuff and how it is not as prone to viruses as other laptops. I need one with a lot of memory, the standard applications like a writing application etc., and something that I can download applications easily on. But are Macs really hard to use? Are applications more geared towards PCs than Macs?

he also says certain anti-virus (e.g. Norton) will bog down system so they install what works best. they won’t tell you what that is so you can just buy it. also says that there is a bunch of pre-installed software on the HP that you can’t really delete without going in to REGEDIT?? file.

is this a bunch of hooey that I would need to optimize a brand new computer?

Hi. After running a series of free virus/malware scan software, I get an alert on my PC, saying that the computer doesn’t detect any anti virus software, making me think I have deleted the installed software we already had by accident (we have a firewall and antivirus as part of a suite). How can I tell if antivirus is still there and working properly?
