Please help me, my sister was using my computer and now it seems like it has a virus / spyware or whatever it is and its really annoying and I’m scared it might have stolen some of my passwords.
It is called av.exe – thats what appears on my task manager. I looked up some pages that say that help remove it but all of them imply downloading something and when i try to download it, it seems a bit too suspicious, like another spyware.
ALSO, MY ANTI VIRUS EXPIRED AND I DONT THINK I CAN BUY ANYTIME SOON.
They install fine but when it comes to actually running the program they disappear. They appear in task manager for about 15 sec and then disappear.
The ones I have tried are: SpyBot, MalwareBytes, Ad-aware, TrendMicro Hijack, Iobit Security 360.
Have tried to run them in Safe Mode but my safe mode is disabled and just restarts the computer. Help, anybody. What to do. And please don’t answer REFORMAT.

I wanted to reset it back to factory settings because the harddrive was given to me by a friend so all of his programs and files were on the computer. There was so much of it, I thought it would be best to just restore the laptop back to factory setting. By the way, my harddrive is by HP but the laptop itself is an IBM. the harddrive does fit the laptop. I logged into the restore managed that HP provides and I selected the setting to restore to factory setting. It went through the entire process and once it got to 100% I got an error message saying the restore process could not be complete, please try again and then the laptop restarted itself. When the laptop restarted itself, before getting the to desktop, the same error message pops up again. The moment I click ok to get out of the message, my laptop restarts and the same thing happens over and over again. Eventually I figured out that by doing alt-ctrl-delete to get into the task manager, a file shows up "audit.exe" if I end the process for it, it takes me to my desktop and everything has been fully restored. The computer fully works, but anytime I restart the computer I have to go into the task manager to end that process and be able to pull up my desktop. I am pulling my hair out because I dont know what to do to make that error message go away. I did a virus scan and theres no virus. Also, I tried going into the restore manager again to try redoing the factory restore and it wont allow me to pick that setting anymore and I cant restore to a previous date, because no restore point was created.
The only thing I can think of, is continue using the laptop as it is OR go buy windows vista and install the operating system and use that as my factory restore.
Is there anything that can be done to make the error go away?
The laptop is running on Vista, I dont have an operating system disk unless I go buy one, and im unsure how to get into safe mode because the harddrive is HP, but the laptop itself is an ibm thinkpad. im not sure if the process to start safe mode is the same for both.
i already removed spyware quake virus using smitrem, hijack this and kill box, but my command prompt, system restore and task manager swtill dont work, how can i fix this. my antivirus ware doesnt read anymore viruses even after thorough scan.
I have some malicious program in my computer. Here’s what it does:
1. Changes my IE homepage.
2. Adds tab popups to my firefox browser.
3. Prevents me from opening my task manager claiming saying I’m not the Administrator.
4. Prevents me from printing pages from the internet.
5. Adds a tool bar to my IE
6. Adds a ton of pop ups showing fake antispyware sites. Certain pop ups resemble a Windows alert pop up.
7. Gives a flash "X" icon on my desktop
I tried my anti-spyware programs and I’m convinced that I should do a system restore or manually remove the trojan.
What should I do and how do I do
The Malware could be the Vundo trojan.
I’m getting one of those annoying pop ups that looks like windows firewall telling me that I have a virus. When I click fix, it sends me to a webpage to buy antivirus software but from some unknown company. I’ve ran mcafee after updating it, and it finds nothing.
Also, when the popup came up, i went to task manager and selected the task, then selected "go to process" and it was fcluavg.exe. I did a search on that with no hits. I then selected "show file location" and it was in a folder in my %appdata folder but it wouldn’t let me delete it.
Do I need to get a different antivirus program?
Earlier today, my laptop got a virus. It made it so that nothing worked, and an Antivirus program has appeared that promises to fix it after I buy the full version for a lot of money. Obviously this is a virus, but I can’t fix it! It won’t let me download anything that can stop it, as it blocks my internet. And in safemode, and even networking safemode, I can’t seem to get internet either. I currently have it shut down and am using my families main computer, but I would definitely like to use my laptop again.
Two things you should know: I tried to use a flashdrive to download an anti-virus program, but it wouldn’t install. It said there was an error and couldn’t continue.
Also, I have looked for the Antivirus 2008 or 2009 file in Program Files, but it isn’t there.
I have tried all the methods that people have given for similar questions, and nothing is working. Please help! And, as I’m not very computer smart, I would appreciate it if you specified what modes I have to do things in (Safemode, normal, Networking Safemode, etc).
Thanks a lot!
Well, I’ve now manage to download malewarebytes, and after a scan in SafeMode the virus still exists. Also, I feel I should add that in Normal Mode. Task Manager also does not work.
The virus seems to call itself "SWP2009". It also calls itself Antivirus System Pro.

I am in my sophomore year of college, and my laptop computer turns four years old this Christmas. It’s a Toshiba (Satellite series) laptop, and it has started to go pretty slow and sometimes programs stop responding and have to be closed through Task Manager. I think it may just need some more RAM. The hard drive still has plenty of space, and the laptop has never had any serious virus because I don’t go to any weird or questionable sites. I regularly scan it just in case though.
I have been considering buying a new laptop. I would like to stick with a PC just because I don’t want to spend over 0 for a laptop or deal with a Mac in general. It needs to have a reasonable amount of RAM. I don’t need a super high-tech laptop, just one that gets the job done (ie: internet, microsoft programs, etc).
Basically, I am trying to decide what to spend my future Christmas money on: a new laptop; or an external hard drive and possibly some sort of upgrade (ie: RAM).
Should I should get a new laptop or just keep the one that I have? Please let me know what action, and laptop or upgrade you would recommend. I feel like the one that I have now is still in good shape; it just needs some upgrading, but I wasn’t sure what all is possible, or if it’s just a better use of my money at this point to buy a new laptop. Thanks!
What processes should be running in my task manager with no applications open? What is safe to remove?
Where is malicious software or folders commonly found and how do i remove these items?
I own a Toshiba Laptop if that helps. I got some things on here I would like to keep therefore I cant restore my harddrive. Thanks for your help guys.
I tried the safe mode but the screen shows that i need to remove something before i can do that. The problem is the folders and the task manager is not showing. When I press CTRL ALT DEL it says that the administrator has disabled it. Please help! How can I fix my laptop??????
When I hit F8, and choose Safe mode with networking, it shows that I need to remove newly installed programs but I really cant read it all since it will restart the computer automatically.
I just bought a Dell XPS M1330 (Vista) for about a month and now I think I am having a virus. Besides using this laptop for studying, I never wander around on the net so I find it surprising that I got a virus.
The reason why I think I got a virus because recently my laptop has been very slow. The CPU ranges from 4% to 100%. I opened Task Manager to see a program named mysqld.exe is the source of such weird CPU usage.
I tried msconfig to delete it but I couldn’t find it.
I tried the “search” function in Vista to look for the source of mysqld.exe but couldn’t find it (a Dell representative told me it is a virus because I don’t have a folder for mysql in drive C)
Then I tried McAfee but it did not find anything
Please help me.
i can now open files only through the task manager. my taskbar and desktop items are no where to be found.
I recently ran virus scan and it detected 2 files infected with the Trojan virus called "New Malware". I deleted the 2 files, yet my computer continues to alert my that it is infected. Also, on my task manager it shows IEXPLORE.EXE running but Internet Explorer is not running, and eventually it will start playing music and advertisments until I "end" the process, but it comes back 5 minutes later. Any tips on how to remove this virus from my computer?
And without rebooting and reinstalling everything.
Bought a used Lenovo X41 Tablet laptop used. It came with no firewall or security programs. I stupidly when online and now have a virus (or something) that puts the CPU at 100% and makes the comp not function.
I found that if I put up the Task Manager and deleted the program TSMService.exe (System, 1,980K) that the CPU goes to 0% and the computer functions normally again.
So, I’m gonna buy some security for it.
Should I let the security remove the problem or should I restore it somehow (I only used it for a few days, it came with only a few programs on it).
Thanks from a comp newb
I’m pretty positive I just got a virus or spyware. My net goes real slow, I keep getting popups, and somehow it changes my google searches. I see in m task manager a ew weird things runing, like chkntfs.exe, and v6.exe. What is a good FREE spyware removal? Last time I used what was supposed to be a good free one, it deleted a system file so I’m wary. And I can’t search google because this thing won’t let me. Help please!!
I’m pretty sure it was Adaware SE that ruined my PC last time. Can someone recommend programs (free) that they have used before which have worked well?
This virus is destroying my pc. Task Manager is disabled because of it. A few answers about this would help
