I currently have a Toshiba Satellite, and I’m fed up with it. The wireless shuts off randomly (it has been doing this since day 1) and doesn’t work completely unless I have an ethernet, it freezes while loading websites regularly, even if it’s just me checking my e-mail, and it totally crashed last month, forcing me to re-image it. Whether it’s all just me or the laptop itself, I don’t know, but I’m definitely in the market for a new laptop. I’m currently a senior in college, so I want to have a laptop I could use for grad school and the future as well- this is not going to be some laptop I buy once, and then trash it next year for another replacement. I’ll probably be using it for Word processing, PowerPoint presentations, music and pictures, as well as internet. Nothing too huge. I was thinking of a netbook, but I don’t think it’d be able to handle all of that. I’m leaning toward a MacBook just because I am so frustrated with the things that go wrong with my Toshiba (viruses, being slow, etc), but I’m also considering Sony laptops as well.
Any suggestions? I’d rather not get a Dell (heard too many bad stories) and I’m NOT considering another Toshiba, ever. Also, considering my usage and memory requirements (which music and pictures is a big part of), what specs should I be looking for?
Any help on a good quality, longterm laptop that won’t fall apart on me in a year or two would be great, I’m clearly not an expert on this!

Mac book, bought in August, I’ve been using a free program up until now, I need protection that is still affordable
And for the record, I never download music of movies illegally or anything, I just want virus protection INCASE something makes its way thru email or something
My friend had gone to send me a music file and neglected to tell me that her computer had a virus. Typically I have a great virus and anti-spyware protection program and will alert and quarantine before anything can, I guess embed into my files! Well unlucky and stupid me this time nothing worked!
I’ve been using it offline but now that classes are starting up soon what are my options! It’s a new computer I got it in December…um Dell Inspiron 1520 I believe. It has the TrendMicro Protection service.
I know that some places will clean it out but I am wondering if that’s safe? Also what types of places, i.e. Staples or Best Buy will do a better job of wiping it out the fastest! && If I have the computer cleaned (stupid files I added on) will it also delete my Trend Micro Program?
My PC is 4 years old and still runs very well. It’s a Dell Dimension 2300 Windows XP. Printer is included. It has wireless internet, no viruses ( I never downloaded music onto it), up to date virus protection, not slow performance and hardly ever freezes. How can I sell it & is that safe to do? Can I use ebay, amazon ,any ideas?
Ok today i’m going to get my first laptop from Best Buy cause i’m going to use my mom to buy it and i will be paying it monthly for like 3 months so the interest would kill me. But i want it to have a Dvd player and Cd player and being able to burn them if possible and with enough memory to download softwares for virus and music and fast internet and good battery life.Which one should i can and can it be around 300-650 dollars, Thamks a lot. Oh heres the website http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcat17080&type=page&qp=crootcategoryid%23%23-1%23%23-1~~q70726f63657373696e6774696d653a3e313930302d30312d3031~~cabcat0500000%23%230%23%2311a~~cabcat0502000%23%230%23%23o~~f518||4c657373207468616e2024363030~~f534||31352671756f743b202d2031362671756f743b~~nf628||4f766572203230304742&list=y&nrp=15&sc=abComputerSP&ks=960&usc=abcat0500000&sp=%2Bbrand+skuid&list=y&iht=n&st=processingtime:>1900-01-01
I have a desktop and a big chunky monitor. Everything is running really slow and I think I have a virus. I’m not interested in how to fix the desktop (I’ve already posted that question on here and nothing worked.) I’m looking to buy a used laptop. I have an external hard drive that I’ve downloaded music and pictures to. I’m thinking Ebay – My main concern is getting one with Word and Excel – I assumed both came with Windows XP; which is what I’m running on my desktop now. When it says it comes with XP – does that mean it comes with Word and Excel also? What is a good brand and specs to be looking for?
I just bought a new mac book, and I want to put all of my music on it, but my old PC has a virus that is deleting my hard drive. I don’t want this to carry over to my mac. If I put some of the music from that computer onto my mac will the virus not effect it?
I understand that a virus will affect the data as well, but things like music and video will not be infected. But as soon as i copy data from an infected PC, the virus will copy itself from source to destination. SO whats the best way to copy data without bringing in a virus.
Thanks
