Remove Trojan Virus

Can anyone recommend a free anti-virus and/or spyware protection to download from a safe reliable source on the internet? So far I’ve had no luck…I get stuck with the ones that say "Free!" But then you download a huge program onto your machine, then run a virus scan, then, the results to tell you how many errors/viruses/spyware you have, but THEN you have to PAY to actually have th program FIX it! That is enough to make me really MAAAAD! lol

A couple of years ago, a friend had mentioned a very goos free anti-virus to me, unfortunately I am at a loss as to what it was called or where to find it! From what I heard at the time, it was much better than anything that you could even BUY. I believe it was a German/English website (if memory serves me correctly)

So if that sounds familiar to anyone, please help! If not that one in particular, I am willing to try anything that has a good reputation, and a tried and true track record.

Thanks bunches everyonu

I’m at a loss here, and I’m looking for some help to buy some time so I can use my laptop this afternoon..

Dell Vostro 1000 w/ Windows XP Home, 2GB Ram, SP2 was 23% free space, now ~ 65% free.

A couple of days ago my laptop started acting quirky — when trying to right-click files to copy, the folder / file would freeze, and then I would have to kill the process or kill explorer.exe to unlock it.

Yesterday, I tried booting up and the system would freeze solid, except my mouse, and if I clicked on things a few times, a loud system beep — all within about a minute of booting up. I played with things for about 7 hours yesterday, finally was able to do a system restore, then deleted all the apps I installed within the last week, ran several virus / spyware scans, cleaned up my registry, etc.

I also ran chkdsk and there weren’t any errors.

Now, I am a bit more stable, but it intermittently freezes up still. Additionally, when I open Firefox, it eats up about 1GB of memory within 10 seconds. I can get firefox to operate normally by completely removing it, then re-installing it, but after starting it a couple of times, it does it again.

I don’t think this is a Firefox problem, though, and I don’t think it’s a virus or bug, at least that I can see through log files, running processes, or through several different spyware / virus detection tools.

If anybody has a clue what might be causing this, and maybe a temporary fix to make the system more stable for a day or so, that help would be appreciated. I won’t suffer much / any data loss as I’m backing things up real-time as I use them now, but it’ll take me over a day to setup my PC, and I have to get work done today.

One more note: I am an exceptionally heavy computer user — sometimes the laptop is online for days at a time, and I actively use it 10+ hours most days. I usually have to format & reinstall the OS 2x a year (I treat my PC kind of like an aggressive pizza delivery-driver treats his/her vehicle), so it’s probably just due to use and abuse, but I’ve never run into these symptoms before, and maybe there’s a likely problem that I can fix temporarily until I have the time to wipe the drive clean and start over.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, i would like to have some advice. I need to buy an AntiVirus software, but im not sure if buying Nod32 or BitDefender. Ive heard good reviews of both of them. I need a secure, updatable Antivirus, and thar doesnt use too much memory, a light software.

Thanks!

I’ve got a Dell desktop and a Toshiba laptop. My lap-tippity-top went and got a virus on it. I got all the visible viruses out using Webroot software but it keeps randomly shutting down. I went to Best Buy and talked to the Geek Squad guys and they said it was a virus loaded into the memory or something and that to get rid of it I would have to restore it to factory condition. The thing is, I don’t have any system disks or anything for my laptop, but I DO have them for my desktop.. Can I use those disks or do I have to go and buy disks FOR MY LAPTOP? If I DO have to go buy them, where do I go and about how much do they run for?

I am looking for a personal antivirus software. easy to use, light on pocket, and not taking too much memory. what do you suggest is a good choice.

I’m looking to buy a laptop under 0, hopefully a Mac, slightly used or new, with capacity for Photoshop CS3 and a decent amount of memory. I’m a senior in highschool and my computer has basically crashed due to the WIndows XP AntiVirus 2008 Virus, and I’ve tried at least twenty different methods of getting the virus off and nothing seems to work.

I’ve resorted to just buying a laptop, but it definitely needs to be able to hold Photoshop.

Any ideas?

Thank you guys so much!

EDIT:

Thank you for the advice– I was originally just going to get it wiped clean, but my parents were saying it would cost somewhere around 0. From what you’re saying, though, it should cost about 0 and save me a lot of trouble.

Thanks again!

Sorry this is so long!
please lots of answers because im not "computer savy"

My parents apparently guilty because of the whole divorce thing have agreed to buy me a laptop that would be used for mainly school, entertainment purposes (music, photos, SIMS 2?) and just internet
I was thinking about the Dell 1420 because I thought it was cheaper but on dell.com it takes FOREVER to ship and was leaning just toward the Hp tablet one i can pick up in the store.

- will this allow me (with integrated RAM, processor, graphics card etc.)
- to have my ipod library on it
-my cannon photo library
-play the SIMS 2 (but no other games)
and still have left over memory like just so it doesnt get slow

ON LAST THING
with a virus blocker, does limewire ef up any (specifically that hp tablet) system and slow it down alot because itunes is a ripoff :(

thanks!

Hello People.

Our Toshiba laptop two weeks ago became infected with more viruses then ever, even when I have removed several from the laptop myself (which are painstaking and time consuming as to avoid destroying it). We had no single way of how to determine where the viruses where coming from. All the laptop does now once we turn on the power is load up untill we see either the Toshina or Windows logo and then turns off again and then turn itselfs back on again. Last time a relative was on the laptop in safe mode searching for a file name. I suggested that at all no file should be deleted untill I looked into it. They said that none were deleted, but I am still full of doubt, could you tell me can the software that assists in the starting up of the laptop be deleted or can it be corrupted to prevent us from using the laptop. Can it be fixed. Its a horror since theres bills to pay for the broadband and We cannot buy a new laptop now.

What can be done?
Free sites cause the problem and other family members failed to keep the filters and virus protection software on. Once it it dealt with we will increase the memory and have individual internet accounts with settings that will not be changed. The day before it happened a younger brother stopped deleting the temp internet files, when I said it should be done after closing every window and now the laptop needs to be scanned and searched for odd files daily.

Seems that Virus & Spyware programs can find the viruses, programs, etc, but if they are running or in memory, even though the programs tell you where the culprit is, you can’t delete them as you get warning messages that program is in use. Is there any program that can find them, reboot the machine and then get rid of them before WIndows boots up again.

My antivirus caught it but cannot for some reason quarantine it because it is in my memory, it’s crazy. Any advice would be helpful?

I have an HP Omnibook 6100 with Windows 2000 on it which needs a reboot disc (due to virus damage), new LCD display bulb and probably upgrades to the memory and speed. I bought it for 0 from a friend about a year ago and only got about 2 months solid use out of it before it quit on me. Should I pay for the list of things above or just go ahead and buy a new one?

I’m buying a laptop now. I’m not sure if i should go with a Mac or a standard notebooks. I like the Mac video editing features and the photobooth stuff and how it is not as prone to viruses as other laptops. I need one with a lot of memory, the standard applications like a writing application etc., and something that I can download applications easily on. But are Macs really hard to use? Are applications more geared towards PCs than Macs?
thanks in advance.

My PC has got a typical virus. Please help me get it removed. In the Internet Options in the control panel, I have put http://www.yahoo.com as the default site, which should open whenever I click on IE6 or IE7 icon. But on my PC a site by the name http://www.asecureboard.com appears whenever I hit IE6. This is strange because under Internet Options the default site still is the same that is http://www.yahoo.com
In addiition to the above, when I try to change the web site from this httpL//www.asecureboard.com site by choosing a new address from the memory available on the drop down feature of the address bar, the site changes as per chosen option except when I choose http://www.yahoo.com. The screen remains static on site http://www.asecureboard.com if I choose yahoo site. Please seek any more clarification from me if that is required to solve my problem. I am having Norton Anti Virus software always live on my PC/
This spyware is not allowing me to go to the site http://www.download.com

I am using an old Windows operating syatem (Windows 2000). I do not wish to use Norton 2005 since the reviews say it sucks up all your memory and slows the computer down. I really, really need to protect my computer when I get on the internet as I have received several viruses. Please, can you suggest a reputable product?
