I bought a laptop with McAfee virus protection already on it. I have had the laptop for a couple of years now and have not continued this virus protection. I was using Avast virus protection (free online download) for awhile, until I got a virus and ended up buying Webroot to get rid of the virus. The virus is now gone but whenever I turn my laptop on, McAfee always pops up and says that part of it is incomplete. It is annoying because it keeps popping up about every 2 minutes. I tried to go into add/remove programs and remove McAfee but it will not allow me. I click on the "remove" box, the hourglass thing appears for a second but nothing happens. Any help on removing the program would be appreciated. I no longer need it since I have Webroot Anti virus.

Hello to all,

I am having a dilemma right now. My folks PC in Washington has contracted a Kavo Trojan. I am currently in the process of trying to remove this virus, however it keep coming back. Not surprisingly.

I am in CA right now using logmein(remote desktop) in an attempt to remove this virus/spyware. The virus was first detected by McAfee Antivirus .

I have perform the following:

1. Spyware Search & Destroy 1.4 w/ latest build
2. McAfee Antivirus w/ latest build
3. Lavasoft Adware Removal 1.06 Build w/ latest Update

Even attempted to look for kavo.exe and kavo0.dll files. Apparently, these files will keep spawning if deleted (McAfee deleted). I have disable the startup service kavo.exe in msconfig. However, I get a pop-up error message. Does anyone know of any method or tools that I can use to remove this virus/spyware. Please keep in mind that I am doing this remotely. I am instructing my folks on the phone. I have already scan my computer w/ McAfee in safe mode.
Thank you all for responding.

SOLUTION:

To remove kavo.exe (aka ntdelect.com, TROJ_NSPM.ADB, and TROJ_NSPM.ABT)

Please perform the following:

1. Go to Trend Micro- http://housecall.trendmicro.com/…
and use their housecall scan/removal

2. Go to Registry Edit aka regedit and
search for
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\kavo.exe"
with the value of kavo

Please note the location of the kavo may vary depending on the type of variant you have. The general information insist that it is in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\”kava” = “%System%\kavo.exe”

I am working on removing all left over "residule" from the virus. As of right now McAfee wasn’t able to detect this virus (i.e. kavo0.dll, kavo.exe in any of my drives)

i just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista and i need protection for it. i dont want to use McAfee or Norton because they use too much of my system’s resources.

i have heard that there are several free programs that will protect my computer real-time as well as McAfee or Norton will.

i always select a best answer.

I recentely asked a question regarding not being able to download avg because it said that i had anti-virus installed after i tried removing mcafee

the most intreegin answer i got was this :

i am sorry to break it to you but mcaffee embeds itself into the os and in the registry so it can not be removed be a virus, but it is most likely not functional, and you can use avg but fyi, your computer will run like crap becuase mcafee will try and update and stuff like that all the time and just do weird things, i would recomend formating the hard drive and starting over

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;;

now i would like some information on this

i dont want to go ahead and do something that jeopidises my computers performance

surely it must be removable or else it would be illegal, as when i bought the laptop i had no inclanation to be apart of mcafee and had wishes to use a free anti-virus like avg 8.0 free edition.

maybe i should say that to pc world see what they say..

what is my best route.

i cannot download avg because it says i have already got anti-vuris installed, but i have done all i can to remove it, add/remove , and the mcafee removal tool
There are no files to do with Mcafee in the list off programmes Nick…

I have checked by searching by the publisher to and there is no mcafee..

When i try to download avg it says attention you have anti-virus installed, but i have removed all related mcafee from add/remove hardware…

Ok, my computer is all screwed up, or so i think it is. run a Windows defender scan and it says i have a Severe Trojan virus called: Trojan:Win32/Vundo/gen!L and i press "apply actions" a window then pops up saying that it needs to send some info to Microsoft to gain information about the things to further the effectiveness of windows defender. so i do send the information and it says it encountered a problem "one or more actions could not be completed successfully". So i check for updates as it recommends and there is none. great I’m screwed. so i then go to my McAfee and do a scan, the scan stops in the middle of it and shuts down the McAfee program Wonderful what now? So then i notice on Internet explorer that is i type something in to google say Myspace and click on the myspace link it directs me to a totally different site such as Elle magazine ?!?! i have no idea whats going on is that caused my the virus?

next i look up best Anti-virus softwares and find Spyware Doctor… and i just found out i have a shit load of threats and infections T_T

10 threats and 344 infections to be exact i have 2 highs, 2 mediums ,4 lows, and 2 "info & PUAs" great, great now im stuck.

ok now time to solve the problem what do you recommend me doing? buying a anti-virus software such as Spyware doctor?

please help thanks.

ps one of the things is a backdoor.agent?!?!

Hi, I’m buying a laptop. I have two virus protection programs on my computer, and I wanted to know if it’s possible to transfer one to the other computer using bonjour or something so I dont have to buy another. I have mcafee and malwarebyte’s

I desperately need a good virus remover. I think my computer has a virus and my McAfee (It’s outdated sadly) won’t pick it up. I tried my spy-bot search and destroy, it came up with nothing, too. But I know for sure I have adware. Help! How can I get rid of this? Please, someone help!

I have read questions regarding virus removal but I am posting my issue so I can give details and get the correct help. I had McAfee installed when this happened. My computer started getting strange error messages at start up such as Error loading c:\windows\system32\calc.dll the specified module could not be found. Also when I Google something then click on a link I get redirected to some other page that has nothing to do with what I clicked. Now when I shut the computer off and turn it back on everything on my desktop is gone except for the tray at the bottom which keeps showing a bubble telling me to open the security center and when I click that icon in the tray it proceeds to scan the pc, tells me I have 40 known threats and gives me the option to remove them or proceed unprotected when I click remove it shows me a screen where I have to pay. When I use my mcafee to scan the system it says there are no known threats. I also have been receiving popups for what claims to be a "make money with google" site and my popup blocker is on and I haven’t received a popup in years. Does any one have any idea what is going on and what I can do. Also I don’t hav the Windows XP disc because my pc had it already installed when I purchased it.
When I reboot the pc so I can start in safe mode I get a blue screen message whenever I chose safe mode. It says a problem has been detected and the computer is shutting down. The reason I came here to get help to do it on my own is because I’m not able to take it to someone to pay for it getting fixed. So I reeally appreciate evryones help.
I went to the help forums suggested by Sly_Old… and MrGrump and was not able to download the programs that I need to start the halp process because it says my security settings won’t allow me to download it. What could be causing that I have not changed any internet security settings and even when I check everythings the same as I left it. I don’t know what else to do I’m getting kinda discouraged.

It keeps telling me to register my firewall software and tells me to go to this website to buy and register the software,i cant buy that stuff though!Help? Is it some scam that got on my computer???Help it wont leave me alone :(

Hi can someone please help me.. ok so this is my problem I bought an acer laptop about almost five months ago and it came with mcafee virus protection trial and it expired but then I moved around the time I lost mcafee and then I got Concast and got Mcafee again b/c they offer it free to costumers. So then today I was using my laptop and all of sudden I got a pop up saying that I had 8 viruses(which was the first time I’ve ever gotten a virus) so I did a scan with windows defender and Mcafee and both said that there was nothing there but now this pop up keeps on popping up it’s called Extra Antivirus and it has a shortcut and is on the bottom panel of my laptop as well but I kept on deleting it and it won’t go away and it’s not in my programs(I tried to look for it there but it’s not there) is there anyway to get rid of it and if there is how?please help.

I just bought a new hp desktop 6 days ago with amd athlon 5600+ windows vista home premium 3 gb ram 500 gb sata hard drive im not really quite sure but i think the video memory is only 128 mb… the computer comes with a free 60 day trial to use norton but this sunday i will have a comcast provider for internet and they have that service that comes with mcafee and my computer has that windows defender thing not quite sure what the differences are but the people that sold the comp to us warned us to buy a antivirus software because they’re computer got attacked by viruses or either got hacked and needed to buy a new one…

P.s. I havent used the free 60 day norton thing I dont really have internet yet im waitin for comcast and either today or tomorrow i will buy a new antivirus/spyware software for my comp…

I use Anti virus software for many years. At first I was a big fan of Mcafee and Norton until I discovered Kaspersky.I try to scan a computer with Mcafee and it didnt found nothing.I tried with Norton and it only found suspicious cookie.

Then AVG found 5 virus and finally I tried Kaspersky. It was able to delete more than an 100 virus that other antivirus couldn’t find.
My only problem is that this software come from Russia, a country where international laws make local criminal laugh.Russians are among the best programmer in the planet on top before Chinese and Indians. They are the top coders and every years they beat north Americans,Europeans and chinese at problem solving competition. Most devastating modern computer virus come from russia.
All this make me scare that Kaspersky can be a spyware itself .and there is no organization that supervise softwares.I use it for a month, everything was great until the trial finish and I didnt purchase it.After that my computer became unsuable.
Have anybody had problem with Kaspersky after their long trial? Is there any U.S organization that study those foreign software to know if they are not dangerous for people? It look like its a very powerful anti virus and I would buy it but strange thing happend to me last time I use it.I want to be sure its not Kaspersky fault, anybody had similar problem?
Those answers are very reassuring but does Kaspersky allow Americans or any foreigner to examine their source code? Many software company refuse such possibility,Microsoft is among many like that.

Examining the behavior of a software cannot guarantee that the software isn’t smart enough to behave in an certain manner to avoid being detected. Some program are even able to recode themself to modify data.A complicate security software like Kaspersky can easily have power on the resource of a computer to modify anything, including itself.

I have "Spy Guard 2008" on my computer (I do believe it’s malicious spyware stuff) and I need to get rid of it and it’s components. I want to BUY a top notch virus cleaner/protector for WINDOWS XP. I haven’t had a paid subscription to virus protection for a couple years now. I need something spectacular that will clean my computer and protect me.

Should I buy Norton or McAfee? Which versions? Or is there something else out there that would fit my situation? Please be honest, and I appreciate your help! :)
PS-
I think the one I have installed on my computer is McAfee, but it hasn’t been renewed since I first bought my computer.
Any sites that have to do with virus protection WON’T LOAD! It keeps saying "page error"….what does this mean?!?!
Tried installing the search and destroy spyware…got this message:

"error sending request.
a connection with the server could not be established."
Please email me at zzzonkout@aol.com for any more info if you already answered the question :)

I have two processes called freddy77.exe and pp12.exe which are harming my computer. I swept my computer with McAfee and Spybot, and they have not been able to get them. Any suggestions?

Any info about these 2 processes would also be appreciated. My browser won’t allow me to access sites discussing them (so it seems).

i have this alert in my tool bar with an exclamation mark in a triangle and a mine like the one in minesweeper saying i have critical system errors. my computer is telling me i have spyware and trojan viruses and stuff. i bought spyware doctor and mcafee and installed both in my computer and they are finding nothing wrong with my computer at all. they are not finding it!! how can i remove this.?

also, sometimes when i cut on my computer and try to open internet explorer or windows media player, it says "internet explorer (or ) windows media player has encountered a problem and needs to close" and then i have to log off and sign on again for it to work.

What is the best anti-virus softare to get? I have heard of AVG, Norton, McAfee & Avast, any good?
Also, is it work getting the free or paid for version? What other criteria should I look at.

Thank you!

A distressed buyer!

A few days ago I my anti-virus software (McAfee) detected and cleaned a Trojan on my computer. I scanned all my files and it found 3 more infected files, which we causing me to have numerous popups on my computer. I’ve scanned my computer probably 10 times in the best 3-4 days and although it says the system is clean I’m still getting popups and my computer’s acting weird. My McAfee will not open, and when it finally does, it won’t enable virus protection or allow my system to be scanned. When I open my computer’s history, I see links that claim to be internet pages that appear with the title ‘NDrBC’ and usually comes with a number (1-9) following the ‘C’. For example, one file is NDrBC3.tmp. It says this file is stored on my local disc in my Local Settings under ‘Temp’. I am pretty sure this is a virus, can anyone confirm this for me? Should I try to manually delete these files, or should I buy complete new antivirus software, and what do you suggest? Price is not an issue. Thanks!

Besides McAfee and Norton, which seem to be rubbish does anyone know of any anti virus software that can be bought from the internet?

My boyfriend accidentally downloaded a virus/spyware program on to his computer. It is one of those where it says you have spyware and pops up with "buy this product to remove it" and it is even popping up with false IE and Microsoft security bubbles. He does have McAfee 12 in 1 protection and even went out and bought this Spyware Sweeper program but it isn’t seeming to help at all. When he clicks on the site, the product name is Online Security Center 7.1. The bad thing is, not only is hard to search for in search engines (because I’m getting real spyware prevention things) but it is blocking some sites like the McAfee support and links that tell him how to get it off. If anyone can help me out, we’d greatly appreciate it. He could always reformat completely but he has a lot of stuff he doesn’t want to lose.

I have some free anti-viral software programs (Anti-Virus and Antivir) on my computer but for some reason, they aren’t doing the job.

Should I go out and buy McAfee or Norton’s? How much do these programs cost (I’m on a budget)?

What is the best anti-virus softare to get? I have heard of AVG, Norton, McAfee & Avast, any good?
Also, is it work getting the free or paid for version? What other criteria should I look at.
