Hey guys, I have juz bought a laptop, and woundering what antivirus suit to it….
My question is….do you think the free antivirus software is enough to protect my laptop….
If not….any suggestion of antivirus software for me………………Thank yA!!

My vista laptop is showing a security warning that states: Application cannot be executed. The file mcui32.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now? If i select no, then it reappears a few minutes later. However if i select yes then it expects me to buy the antivirus software. Is there any solution to this? Please help, i am in alot stress trying to figure this out.

I need a free virus removal for my laptop. I noticed today that my comp has a virus and idk how to get rid of it. I need something free but yet something that works. My wallpaper is completely blank and my comp keeps shutting down. Any advice would be great! Thx

I’ve found this laptop for sale and the owner claims it has a virus she didn’t want to mess with so bought a new computer. Would it be difficult to get rid of the virus, especially if you aren’t interested in anything but the software on it or would you have to replace it, and how would you get rid of it? Would software manufacturers replace the original software for free or would you have to buy new? The sale price is 0 and it’s use would be very basic, word processing and internet for e-mail and limited surfing. Would you buy this computer, assuming you are very computer savvy?

I will soon be planning to buy a laptop, but I will be using it for school and college later on. Which is a better and a smarter choice, Apple or Windows?

I usually use the computer for Internet Search, Writing reports, essays, and other school work, etc. I also use it for storing pictures from my Digital Camera and iTunes as well. I currently have Windows XP in my P.C, yet have been having trouble with viruses, the computer freezes and is somewhat slow during the Internet search process. Yet compare to my school, they use Apple instead, and so far I like it.

All ideas and suggestions are truly appreciated. Thanks!

My Gates laptop came with the media movie maker. Quicktime somehow got onto it and now I can not use the movie maker, does not recognize .MOV file. Researching it, I see Apple got a virus in Quicktime. I can not change the video files to other formats, will not work. Does BestBuy stores or someone have a way to wipe it out or change it to windows media player as it was originally? Am I just going to have to buy the Quicktime Pro to use there movie maker? Will Muvee movie player work reading these Quicktime MOV files?

Question about virus removal.?
Tomorrow my buddy is giving me her laptop to fix(it has viruses on it). What programs do you recommend for removal or complete removal?

I wanted to reset it back to factory settings because the harddrive was given to me by a friend so all of his programs and files were on the computer. There was so much of it, I thought it would be best to just restore the laptop back to factory setting. By the way, my harddrive is by HP but the laptop itself is an IBM. the harddrive does fit the laptop. I logged into the restore managed that HP provides and I selected the setting to restore to factory setting. It went through the entire process and once it got to 100% I got an error message saying the restore process could not be complete, please try again and then the laptop restarted itself. When the laptop restarted itself, before getting the to desktop, the same error message pops up again. The moment I click ok to get out of the message, my laptop restarts and the same thing happens over and over again. Eventually I figured out that by doing alt-ctrl-delete to get into the task manager, a file shows up "audit.exe" if I end the process for it, it takes me to my desktop and everything has been fully restored. The computer fully works, but anytime I restart the computer I have to go into the task manager to end that process and be able to pull up my desktop. I am pulling my hair out because I dont know what to do to make that error message go away. I did a virus scan and theres no virus. Also, I tried going into the restore manager again to try redoing the factory restore and it wont allow me to pick that setting anymore and I cant restore to a previous date, because no restore point was created.

The only thing I can think of, is continue using the laptop as it is OR go buy windows vista and install the operating system and use that as my factory restore.

Is there anything that can be done to make the error go away?
The laptop is running on Vista, I dont have an operating system disk unless I go buy one, and im unsure how to get into safe mode because the harddrive is HP, but the laptop itself is an ibm thinkpad. im not sure if the process to start safe mode is the same for both.

If I ask my dad to buy antivirus software and other software to make my laptop faster (I think i have some viruses) does it show what sites or files the viruses came from?

I’m playing fallout 3 with no lag on medium with 800×600, 8x AA, No Anisotropic Filtering, HDR. My GPU can make High too but my problem here is that suddenly when i play, i get somekind of leak in the cpu. The game goes slow, fast, slow, fast slow, fast. I have to go to the menu and wait a bit and then play again for 2 min and it happens again :(

This is because the CPU cache is getting full. CPU may run slow when its over heated.

My pc runs at 70+ degrees. Thats baad. When im not playing its about 67 degrees. So i think its a problem there. For some months ago my GPU died and i bought a new one 8600m gt 512mb, my old one was 8600m gs 256mb witch was slow. But…. the cooling pasta was removed and we didn’t add a new one… CAN THIS BE THE PROBLEM?! Do i need to add a new piece if cooling pasta? The pc is currently in my room witch is cold. Very cold. Im using it as a desktop but only a big screen connected to it and external disk + keyboard & mouse. Will it work to put a fan next to my pc? lol.
I got the problem away for a while while i was running with AA on 4x but it looked horrible?!!? Whats best? Higher resolution with no AA or low resolution with AA?

So, basically my question is:
Why do i get those "slowdowns" ?
How can i reduce/remove it?
Is this caused by heat?

I didn’t have any of those problems while i got my old GPU still working =(

Specs:
Acer Aspire 5920g Laptop
nVidia Geforce 8600m GT 512mb 185.86 driver (because the new one made my pc screen flicker when not connected to big screen)
Intel Core 2 Duo 1,83 Ghz T5550
3 GB DDR2 Ram
Disk 1: 18 GB free space
Disk 2: 36 GB free space
External Disk: 302 GB free space
Virus Free (Checked with AVG Free, Spybot S&D.
Daily Registry cleaning with CCleaner
Used to overclock with rivatuner but removed it after bluescreen problems.

Please read the whole question. I made it as detailed as i could :D

I’m planning to buy a new laptop. I have never used Mac. I just know that it’s more expensive than Windows , and it less risky when it comes to viruses.
I’d like to have a little change.
Do you think that Mac is a right choice?
Can you explain to me the advantages and the disadvantages of this OS?

Thanks xx

i want to know wat is the best kind to get and i had got me a desk top computer in christmas 2005 and that computer is broke out of this world and when i do get my laptop i had a ipod and how do i down music to my ipod with out getting virus on there i use lime wire and i tunes

I’ve used limewire before, but I just bought a new laptop and limewire doesn’t seem to want to download for some reason. So I was thinking of trying Frostwire. But since I heard that one is bad too for viruses and stuff, what SHOULD I use to download? I don’t want to pay for it though, I feel as if I’m out of options and should try installing Frostwire.

ok I just bought my laptop a few days ago. and then while I was in facebook, my browser(firefox) just redirected me to another site and then the site did like a virus scan on my laptop and it says that my laptop has a lot of viruses in it. I tried to cancel it but whenever i click "cancel" the site was recommending me to download something. I didn’t download it but I used my anti-virus (Avast!) to scan my hard drive but it didn’t find anything. So what do you guys think? Does my computer have a virus or it’s just nothing? It just started to do it yesterday and it happened again today. And it just redirected me to the website when I was in facebook(today and yesterday).

I bought a used laptop running XP. When I first got it it was logging on fine, it didn’t ask me for the password even though I was using the old user’s setting.

But then a bunch of crap started to happen… like it wasn’t loading my personal settings. To get to the desktop I had to press Ctrl/Alt/Del then Run task and run explorer or something to get into windows and to have my setting loaded.

I started to think it was a virus so I tried to run a scan but some files were corrupted in the program. Then I downloaded a free virus scanner and tried to install it then it said something was wrong with windows installer, so I downloaded a new installer and installed the virus scanner. I had over 700 infected files. they put in quaranteen, then they said to restart. I couldn’t restart because the start icon disappeared and CAD was not working so I held down the power button for five seconds. Then I turned it back on. Now it’s asking for a password. WHY? Is there any way around

I’m at a loss here, and I’m looking for some help to buy some time so I can use my laptop this afternoon..

Dell Vostro 1000 w/ Windows XP Home, 2GB Ram, SP2 was 23% free space, now ~ 65% free.

A couple of days ago my laptop started acting quirky — when trying to right-click files to copy, the folder / file would freeze, and then I would have to kill the process or kill explorer.exe to unlock it.

Yesterday, I tried booting up and the system would freeze solid, except my mouse, and if I clicked on things a few times, a loud system beep — all within about a minute of booting up. I played with things for about 7 hours yesterday, finally was able to do a system restore, then deleted all the apps I installed within the last week, ran several virus / spyware scans, cleaned up my registry, etc.

I also ran chkdsk and there weren’t any errors.

Now, I am a bit more stable, but it intermittently freezes up still. Additionally, when I open Firefox, it eats up about 1GB of memory within 10 seconds. I can get firefox to operate normally by completely removing it, then re-installing it, but after starting it a couple of times, it does it again.

I don’t think this is a Firefox problem, though, and I don’t think it’s a virus or bug, at least that I can see through log files, running processes, or through several different spyware / virus detection tools.

If anybody has a clue what might be causing this, and maybe a temporary fix to make the system more stable for a day or so, that help would be appreciated. I won’t suffer much / any data loss as I’m backing things up real-time as I use them now, but it’ll take me over a day to setup my PC, and I have to get work done today.

One more note: I am an exceptionally heavy computer user — sometimes the laptop is online for days at a time, and I actively use it 10+ hours most days. I usually have to format & reinstall the OS 2x a year (I treat my PC kind of like an aggressive pizza delivery-driver treats his/her vehicle), so it’s probably just due to use and abuse, but I’ve never run into these symptoms before, and maybe there’s a likely problem that I can fix temporarily until I have the time to wipe the drive clean and start over.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just bought a laptop (used) and it not only had no protection, it has viruses. Is there a McAffee or something similar that I can download to not only put in protection, but to clean out what is already there?

I bought a laptop with McAfee virus protection already on it. I have had the laptop for a couple of years now and have not continued this virus protection. I was using Avast virus protection (free online download) for awhile, until I got a virus and ended up buying Webroot to get rid of the virus. The virus is now gone but whenever I turn my laptop on, McAfee always pops up and says that part of it is incomplete. It is annoying because it keeps popping up about every 2 minutes. I tried to go into add/remove programs and remove McAfee but it will not allow me. I click on the "remove" box, the hourglass thing appears for a second but nothing happens. Any help on removing the program would be appreciated. I no longer need it since I have Webroot Anti virus.

Is it because you supposedly buying a OS that gets no viruses? Isn’t cheaper to buy an anti virus on windows? I use windows for years and I only have minor issues. My friends are pushing me to get a Mac but I need a really good reason if I have to spend over 00 on a laptop. Is there something extraordinary Macs can do that windows can’t?

i just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista and i need protection for it. i dont want to use McAfee or Norton because they use too much of my system’s resources.

i have heard that there are several free programs that will protect my computer real-time as well as McAfee or Norton will.

i always select a best answer.

I recentely asked a question regarding not being able to download avg because it said that i had anti-virus installed after i tried removing mcafee

the most intreegin answer i got was this :

i am sorry to break it to you but mcaffee embeds itself into the os and in the registry so it can not be removed be a virus, but it is most likely not functional, and you can use avg but fyi, your computer will run like crap becuase mcafee will try and update and stuff like that all the time and just do weird things, i would recomend formating the hard drive and starting over

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;;

now i would like some information on this

i dont want to go ahead and do something that jeopidises my computers performance

surely it must be removable or else it would be illegal, as when i bought the laptop i had no inclanation to be apart of mcafee and had wishes to use a free anti-virus like avg 8.0 free edition.

maybe i should say that to pc world see what they say..

what is my best route.

i cannot download avg because it says i have already got anti-vuris installed, but i have done all i can to remove it, add/remove , and the mcafee removal tool
There are no files to do with Mcafee in the list off programmes Nick…

I have checked by searching by the publisher to and there is no mcafee..

When i try to download avg it says attention you have anti-virus installed, but i have removed all related mcafee from add/remove hardware…
