I want to buy a laptop for pretty much everyday use. I don’t care if it’s Mac or PC. Mac I know is more expensive, but less virus prone. Right know I’m looking at HP and Dell. Dell I know has awful customer support. I’ve also heard names such as Acer, Toshiba and Gateway. I’m kind of skeptical about Gateway. All I know is that I want
-A webcam
-Windows Word (not Works Word Processor)
-PowerPoint
-An average speed (currently looking at Intel Core 2 Duo)
-Be able to multi-task (music, internet, type all at once)
-would like, (but don’t need) Cd/dvd burner
-Wi-Fi (don’t need broadband)
-Would prefer <,000
-No more than ,500
-Needs to last about 4-yrs
-Needs to work!!!!!

hi, about a year ago i bought an esystems laptop:
intel celeron m420 1.6ghz
512mb ddrii 533 ram
40 gb hard drive which is half full
vista basic
when i bought it it was pretty quick but now just having a couple programmes open and its very slow.
i regularly defrag, disc cleanup. have avg and norton anti virus, use smitfraudremover tool, adaware and spybot. but none seem to help.
is there anything else i can do to make it faster short of buying a new one. i know that technology advances quickly… but to make mine obselete in a year?
btw i only realy use it for itunes, coursework, internet, movies etc. i dont play games on it at all. id just like the programmes i have not to take minutes to start up or complete one task.
any help is much appreciated

windows xp professional
i have tried anti virus, disk cleanup, cleaning registry, and my laptop still runs slow, it’s pretty old.
what should i do?
i use my laptop to play games such as "GunZ:The Duel" should i just end up selling the laptop and buy a newer one, or get more RAM for my current laptop?

I just bought new Dell. I had bought Spy Sweeper with it, believing it is the best Anti-Spyware. Was I right? Also we used to have a roommate that worked at Intel, he gave me a copy of Symantec Antivirus Version 9.0.3? What is the best, and please give proof, such as a rating from CNET or PCWorld Magazine. Thanks

Hi, I’m going to Illinois Institute of Technology next year. I’m going to specialize in the aerospace engineering program, so I’m going to need programs like Auto-CAD and other large software programs (how much does Auto-CAD take up anyway?). And I suppose I’ll be doing presentations and stuff like that in the near future.
On a personal note, I want a laptop that I can use to burn cds and dvds, handle torrents of downloads, store a LOT of pictures, and watch movies from the internet and DVDs in great, crisp picture quality. I know that the Intel Core 2 Duo is the best right now, but what kind of processor do I NEED for all my stuff? What is the best processor speed, lb cache, etc.? Should I get an Intel 4500 MD graphics card or something better? What is the best sized hard drive for everything I want to do? And last question: is it better to buy a configured laptop online with things like microsoft office pre-installed, or is it better to buy my laptop from the store and buy ms office/ anti-virus separately?
I appreciate any and all help I receive for my questions.

I want to buy my 7 year old son a cheap laptop, enough for him to use to surf the web, I found a lap top w/ Intel Atom 270 Processor. Do I still need to purchase an anti-virus? and should 512 mb be good enough for him to surf the web. I know nothing about computers!

2 Laptops seem rather decent to me
and the laptop’s ability to play games (e.g. N64 Emulators and games like Halo and Oblivion) is pretty much the deciding factor between these computers. That and overall function.
The first laptop which I am leaning towards is a
HP Dv5000 LAPTOP(intel 1.7 dual pro, 2g ram, 80g, 256m graphic card)
The guy is asking 0 for this
Is this a good deal?
Its used but in good condition.
Also this guy will apparently install Norton Anti virus for a year
Which I told him sure
Even though I pay for McAfee
Also there is another laptop
which is a
DELL LATITUDE D600 1.6GHZ 1024MB 40GB CDRW/DVD WIFI XP PRO LAPTOP
and 5 is being asked for this one
Which do you think is better?
Which do you think could play games the best?

I recently installed Windows on my Intel iMac with Boot Camp and I really have no desire to have my computer ridden with viruses now lol, so I was wondering, what is the best antivirus/antispyware and or firewall software for Windows that doesn’t hog the resources. I know Norton, McAfee, and it’s similarities do this so i’m looking for something (preferably free) that will work. Any suggestions are appreciated!
