hi, about a year ago i bought an esystems laptop:
intel celeron m420 1.6ghz
512mb ddrii 533 ram
40 gb hard drive which is half full
vista basic

when i bought it it was pretty quick but now just having a couple programmes open and its very slow.
i regularly defrag, disc cleanup. have avg and norton anti virus, use smitfraudremover tool, adaware and spybot. but none seem to help.

is there anything else i can do to make it faster short of buying a new one. i know that technology advances quickly… but to make mine obselete in a year?

btw i only realy use it for itunes, coursework, internet, movies etc. i dont play games on it at all. id just like the programmes i have not to take minutes to start up or complete one task.

any help is much appreciated

thankyou

I bought a laptop a month or two ago, which has a 2.1 GHz processor along with 4 Gigs of ram, on a 32-bit system, as well as a 256mb video card, and I was wondering if it would be worth it to change the operating system to XP? (Which I have a free installation CD for)

As of yet I haven’t had any real problems, such as crashes (I think I may have only had one or two) or virus infections, but I have heard that Vista is very unstable.

So the main reason I wish to do it is to improve performance, such as startup time and such.

I do not use the laptop for games, but I do use it a lot for videos, especially burning and ripping dvds, as well as video converting, and occasionally editing.

How much faster will those activities become, for me, if I drop back to XP?

Sorry this is so long!
please lots of answers because im not "computer savy"

My parents apparently guilty because of the whole divorce thing have agreed to buy me a laptop that would be used for mainly school, entertainment purposes (music, photos, SIMS 2?) and just internet
I was thinking about the Dell 1420 because I thought it was cheaper but on dell.com it takes FOREVER to ship and was leaning just toward the Hp tablet one i can pick up in the store.

- will this allow me (with integrated RAM, processor, graphics card etc.)
- to have my ipod library on it
-my cannon photo library
-play the SIMS 2 (but no other games)
and still have left over memory like just so it doesnt get slow

ON LAST THING
with a virus blocker, does limewire ef up any (specifically that hp tablet) system and slow it down alot because itunes is a ripoff :(

thanks!

a couple questions

1. does the brand of the computer affect the speed and performance of the computer and if so which brand is the best to get.

2. also is does mac not get viruses because viruses aren’t intended for mac or because the mac’s security system is strong enough to keep hackers out.

3. Should I get a Mac, a PC, or a linux and tell me why for other reasons than that PC plays the most games.

4. I am looking at used laptops because I have a very low budget so I was wondering if i get a mac I have enough money to get a used Powerbook G4 on ebay is this worth it or are only the new macbooks really the fast and reliable macs

5. Finally and i THANK YOU if u gave the time to read all this. What laptop should I get I want to know from personal experiences which exact laptop people have that they know have everything

P.S. please answer at least one or two of these questions but i will give the best answer to whoever can answer all five the best. :-] thank you

Well, let’s get it to the point, no spammage crap please.

Dell Latitude C610
processor is a Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPI - M 1000MHz
512 mb of ram
windows xp professional

i have tried anti virus, disk cleanup, cleaning registry, and my laptop still runs slow, it’s pretty old.

what should i do?

i use my laptop to play games such as "GunZ:The Duel" should i just end up selling the laptop and buy a newer one, or get more RAM for my current laptop?

I want to buy a laptop come summer and I could use some suggestions as I’m not much into computers.
I’ll use it mostly for the Internet, but for some games and movies as well.
I was thinking about using Linux (less viruses) for the Internet and Windows (more games) for gaming. What do you suggest?
Also, the only game I’ll probably play will be Football Manager, if that makes any difference.

I am looking for a laptop that cost no more then 900 or less dollars i am looking for one that has build in cam and microphone and have 2 GB or more.

I want to download games chat online watch videos play videos and have a good window vista.

I already know the other thing such as an-ti virus and spywares
and other things to remove errors my computer all i need is a laptop in which i can take any ware.

Also i wanna know what kind of USB stick wifi suitable for wireless internet anywhere i go.

I recently downloaded a freeware game as a .zip file from AcidPlay.com. I’ve had some bad experiences with their games before (freeware can be scary… :( ) so I had it scanned with VirusTotal. It said that the file contans a Trojan. How can I remove it so I can play my game?

I have enough money to buy one but not both. I have a laptop right now…I’m wondering if I should buy a new hard drive for my desktop that has a lot of viruses. If I buy a new hard drive I could use the desktop. Should I get an iTouch since it has free internet and games? I want both and I can’t make a decision. List the Pros and Cons of both. Thank You.

Ok help me out the brands and or specifications here.
I possibly might take my laptop to school. It would be used for papers and research (ms office). Also I like watching videos and doing social networking. I need maybe 8GB for music storage (media players). Maybe storage for 100 photos a year (photo editing software). I typically like adding a few games as well. I’d like to stick with Microsoft OS. Of course printers and virus software, and then some room for anything else I might want later. I want speed and durability, and of course not to go broke buying the thing.

Anything else you need to know?
Ok so what are you suggestions?

My computer shuts down when I play certain games and It has just recently started doing that. I have been playing these same games for months and believe the problem is coming from malicious software.

2 Laptops seem rather decent to me
and the laptop’s ability to play games (e.g. N64 Emulators and games like Halo and Oblivion) is pretty much the deciding factor between these computers. That and overall function.

The first laptop which I am leaning towards is a
HP Dv5000 LAPTOP(intel 1.7 dual pro, 2g ram, 80g, 256m graphic card)
The guy is asking 0 for this
Is this a good deal?
Its used but in good condition.
Also this guy will apparently install Norton Anti virus for a year
Which I told him sure
Even though I pay for McAfee

Also there is another laptop
which is a
DELL LATITUDE D600 1.6GHZ 1024MB 40GB CDRW/DVD WIFI XP PRO LAPTOP

and 5 is being asked for this one

Which do you think is better?
Which do you think could play games the best?
