We live in the NW side of Chicago…. and one of our computers has been infected with a virus, Im aware that if Im not mistaken even if we now go to lets say Best Buy and buy a Virus Protector it will not get rid of the virus.. even though I always thought there were Virus Remover programs… So my question is do you guys know of any cheaper alternatives to Best Buy who the starting fee is 0 of maybe a mom and pop shop or atleast a place I can trust in that may be a bit cheaper inside the city of Chicago? I believe Micro Center is also expensive.

My friend had gone to send me a music file and neglected to tell me that her computer had a virus. Typically I have a great virus and anti-spyware protection program and will alert and quarantine before anything can, I guess embed into my files! Well unlucky and stupid me this time nothing worked!

I’ve been using it offline but now that classes are starting up soon what are my options! It’s a new computer I got it in December…um Dell Inspiron 1520 I believe. It has the TrendMicro Protection service.

I know that some places will clean it out but I am wondering if that’s safe? Also what types of places, i.e. Staples or Best Buy will do a better job of wiping it out the fastest! && If I have the computer cleaned (stupid files I added on) will it also delete my Trend Micro Program?

so i went and bought virus/spyware protection and downloaded it and run virus scans on my computer everyday or every other day. but almost every time i go to a website, i still web pages popping up advertising some random thing, even with pop-up blocker. also random times my computer screen will go blank except for my background on my desktop, icons and all so i will have to restart my computer……all i know to do was get virus protection from best buy so im not sure if there is still somethin wrong or not.

I had a virus, and it took me two weeks to recover and remove it. So now i wanna buy an Anti-virus program from stores such as best buy and target that works very, very well. What do you suggest i should purchase?

I am not that computer savvy. I need a laptop so that I can keep working while traveling. How much do I need to spend for a good one which will serve for two years or so? Also can I use free software such as adware, to block viruses and such? It seems a waste to take what the store pushes, as far as anti-virus and spy-ware. When I bought my desktop at Best Buy it seemed I spent a lot extra for that stuff. Any recommendations on which laptop to buy, how much to spend, and how to outfit it with software to be up and running, without spening a lot of unnecessary money.. would be greatly appreciated. Again, I will need to be live with financial markets(such as stocks) and be able to download and view videos of ten minutes in length. I need something very reliable and to keep it very safe and free of virus or anything which would interfere with my financial trading. Thanks a lot.

I don’t mind spending money on spyware or antivirus programs, are they better then the free ones? Cause im trying to do it for free but everything sounds complicated. And what are some good ones i can buy that will fix my all my virus problems… or if there are any. stuff you can buy at a best buy or places like that.

Last week after visiting Best Buy, after watching a salesman try to sell anti-software to a customer, it brought me up questions. So the customer is purchasing a new computer, and the salesperson tries to sell anti-software along with the computer. He elaborates on how it can protect the computer from spy ware and viruses. Unfortunately, she buys into his brainwashing pitch. In the end, she buys it.

We all know spy ware and viruses are bad for our computers. However, when a anti-virus company creates a program to counter it, the cycle continues. Hackers create better viruses that surpass the anti-virus software. Soon the anti-virus companies discover it, then it goes on and on. The need for people to protect their computers can be costly. This can also mean companies are making millions on anti virus products. I want to read what everyone thinks about this.

I want to use it in my new laptop. And I dont want to buy expensive anti viruses at best buy. I am thinking using free anti virus software in the net or the Cox security suite. Which do you think is more effective?

Oh heres the website http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcat17080&type=page&qp=crootcategoryid%23%23-1%23%23-1~~q70726f63657373696e6774696d653a3e313930302d30312d3031~~cabcat0500000%23%230%23%2311a~~cabcat0502000%23%230%23%23o~~f518||4c657373207468616e2024363030~~f534||31352671756f743b202d2031362671756f743b~~nf628||4f766572203230304742&list=y&nrp=15&sc=abComputerSP&ks=960&usc=abcat0500000&sp=%2Bbrand+skuid&list=y&iht=n&st=processingtime:>1900-01-01

Brief background. Its less than a year old, takes forever to start and log in and overheats quickly, even though I bought a really nice fan for it (Logitech) that works to stop my computer from shutting off in 30 minutes due to overheating on normal mode, but on safe mode the fan doesn’t do anything. I have nortons security and within the first 5-10 min of logging into the comp. no matter how many times I restart it there is that little shield with an exclamation mark, telling me to restart the comp. Even though I just restarted it ten minutes ago. I had this trojan on my computer a few months ago where I had to download fix.briv.a or something to get rid of it. So I used it on normal mode and found nothing then I went on safe mode and it detected and removed the trojan.

Fast forward to the present I thought maybe my computer is lagging and stupid because their is another trojan so I went on safe mode and used the fix.briv.a program and within the first five minutes my computer shuts off and the power button starts turning on and off repeatedly until I take out the battery. I’ve tried to a few more times,(even though my sister advised me to stop, I know I’m stupid). On normal mode my computer works (with the fix.briv.a), but on safe mode it shuts off every time I try using that trojan removal program.

So my question is: Isn’t my comp suppose to work on safe mode all the time? and the normal mode is suppose to be the one going hay wire, not the other way around? Is there a virus that the safe mode detects but not in normal mode? Or my computer just sucks? Should I just take it to best buy? I just don’t want to waste their time if I can fix it at home. Sorry for the long detail and blabbing random facts in a disorderly fashion. Anyways, if you have any advice please help! As you can tell I’m computer illiterate…

One of our computers has been infected with a virus, Im aware that if Im not mistaken even if we now go to lets say Best Buy and buy a Virus Protector it will not get rid of the virus.. even though I always thought there were Virus Remover programs… So my question is can’t there be a cheaper alternative than having to take my PC to a place like Best Buy which has outrageous fees to start of 0 to get rid of the virus…. I would rather be able to purchase something that can remove it for 40-100 dollars than go to a place like best buy…. where it will cost over 200 dollars to remove it, and them keep our PC for couple days.

I bought a new laptop from best-buy 2 months back. The laptop came with 60 days free anti-virus from norton anti-virus. I just had my subscription expired a day back. Should i continue with norton or are there any other cheap but better anti-virus out there in the market.

iu have that annoying spyware2009 and winpc , malwarebytes wont get rid of it permanently, so what is a good program i can pick up from wal mart or best buy to help me keep these things away!

I went online and took your advice (thanx) by not fooling with best buy, and i downloaded a very good virus removal software. The only problem is that i still have the personal antivirus on there and it keeps popping up at the bottom of the screen. Can anybody tell me , if possible, how can I uninstall it off of my computer?
