Computer virus/ adware Help!?!?
i do not have an antivirus program yet, but the other day I downloaded a file that contained a malicious file i ran the file and now I get random pop-ups on my computer ever once in a while. Can I still buy antivirus software and get rid of the malicious file. Any software suggestions or help?

I’m having trouble with my laptop computer. I’m not sure if it’s a virus, but when it starts up, internet explorer windows automatically pop up and keep popping up without me clicking on them. I tried to look up antivirus downloads but everytime i do, it sends me to some sites where you have to buy the programs. As if the virus is leading me there. Is there a way I can clean the computer (laptop) using my PC? Can I download an antivirus program on my PC and use it on my laptop? It won’t seem to work. I turned off wifi connections just in case, but is there anything I can do without having to buy an expenssive cd rom?
Also, I tried activating the windows firewall because it was turned off, but it won’t turn back on so it’s hard for me to get a grasp or slow down whatever is wrong

I have some virus (or something else) that no antivirus program can get rid of, i’ve tried mcafee (was installed when i got the virus), windows live one care, and norton internet sec. 2008. None can get rid of it, the computer will be sitting there, and an internet explorer window will open on its own to some random website, and once i turned on the pc and there was another user account i didnt create. So, does Dell PC restore format the hard drive [will it get rid of everything including the problem], or should i use the windows xp cd to reinstall the os. The pc is a dell dimension 2400.

is it possible to install a separate antivirus program just for the external hard drive? im planning on buying an ext.hd but im worried that viruses might attack it.

how can i protect my ext.hd against viruses? is the MAIN antivirus enough on protecting it or do i have to install a separate one?

I’m getting one of those annoying pop ups that looks like windows firewall telling me that I have a virus. When I click fix, it sends me to a webpage to buy antivirus software but from some unknown company. I’ve ran mcafee after updating it, and it finds nothing.
Also, when the popup came up, i went to task manager and selected the task, then selected "go to process" and it was fcluavg.exe. I did a search on that with no hits. I then selected "show file location" and it was in a folder in my %appdata folder but it wouldn’t let me delete it.
Do I need to get a different antivirus program?

My computer is severely infected and I need a good antivirus program. I already bought antivirus and that didn’t work. I just paid for Registry Defender, it didn’t work either. What would you recommend? The screen is green and keeps saying severely infected, HELP!!!!
Also, the free programs are free, but, then they say you have to buy them, help!

Earlier today, my laptop got a virus. It made it so that nothing worked, and an Antivirus program has appeared that promises to fix it after I buy the full version for a lot of money. Obviously this is a virus, but I can’t fix it! It won’t let me download anything that can stop it, as it blocks my internet. And in safemode, and even networking safemode, I can’t seem to get internet either. I currently have it shut down and am using my families main computer, but I would definitely like to use my laptop again.
Two things you should know: I tried to use a flashdrive to download an anti-virus program, but it wouldn’t install. It said there was an error and couldn’t continue.
Also, I have looked for the Antivirus 2008 or 2009 file in Program Files, but it isn’t there.
I have tried all the methods that people have given for similar questions, and nothing is working. Please help! And, as I’m not very computer smart, I would appreciate it if you specified what modes I have to do things in (Safemode, normal, Networking Safemode, etc).

Well, I’ve now manage to download malewarebytes, and after a scan in SafeMode the virus still exists. Also, I feel I should add that in Normal Mode. Task Manager also does not work.
The virus seems to call itself "SWP2009". It also calls itself Antivirus System Pro.

The problem started after i downloaded something using Mozilla Firefox… mins later Mozilla Firefox just stopped working.. so i uninstalled it. Everything is acting crazy. Internet Explorer is acting crazy.. theres always this thing popping up telling me to buy an antivirus program for or continue browsing unprotected. I need help. [I Have Vista]

My Antivirus program, Panda Internet Security, is running out soon. It’s been pretty good, I’ve used Panda for years, and I’m thinking of switching. Maybe just for a new experience, maybe because I could save some pennies. Panda has been one of the more expensive of the handful of internet security options that Microsoft have recommended over the last few years.

I heard that Kapersky Internet Security is a good program. I went to Google shopping, and searched for offers. The price is O.K. anyway, at around £23 (British pounds), though there are O.E.M. versions in the Google shopping list at nearly half this price. Checking if O.E.M. is legal - it seems it depends on the license that each program is issued to the company selling it under. So, it seems that if you buy from a reputable company, they will know what they are doing and won’t be breaking the terms from the software company.

But people warn against buying O.E.M. software which isn’t supplied with a machine or for your own build, because you don’t get typical support for the program. Is that for real?

What would be the point of selling O.E.M. antivirus software, legally, with a 1 year license for use with updates if you weren’t entitled to the antivirus support? Like sending a virus your computer is suffering to the software co., and allowing the software co. (if the offer it) remote access to your machine to help it.

What happens here? Please advise me if you know, and if you are someone who has bought O.E.M. antivirus programs before and know about the support available. Especially if you know about Kapersky. I’m all for the sale of O.E.M. software where it’s legal - the redundant programs that companies have bought in good faith, in bulk usually, would just be left sitting there, with user licenses intact, if they weren’t sold on. And it would seem silly not to buy cheaper O.E.M. if it’s as good for you as the retail versions.

i uninstalled McAfee Security Center, the current outdated antivirus program and it said to restart my computer which i did so i thought everything was fine. i went to install the new software, Trend Micro Internet Security and the same screen saying to uninstall the old stuff came up again and when i looked in the control panel it said the old program was still there…….so when i went to uninstall the old stuff again the computer said it couldnt because some compenents were missing???? so now i cant install the new stuff until i get rid of the old stuff which i cant seem to do…….would call the computer company i bought it from help or wut should i do

I’m looking for a list of top ten antivirus software so that I can compare different antivirus programs and select the best antivirus software for my computer. I need the 2010 version antivirus which is the latest version. I don’t need free antivirus software because I don’t think it is good to buy free antivirus programs. I need a paid version but will go with the cheapest and best antivirus program. Appreciate your help.

My computer is infected with adware and malware, and I can’t afford to buy an antivirus program right now (though I will when I can). I need a free program but so far I’ve only found programs that offer a free scan and then want you to buy it before they’ll remove anything. Well, I tried SPYBOT, but it only removed some of the problems, and my computer is still infected.

Is there any other program that I can try?

I used to have Norton Antivirus, but my subscription expired. Is it worth it to pay to renew my subscription, or should I just download a freeware antivirus program?

What are some good free antivirus software? I keep hearing about Avast and AVG?
