I just bought a laptop and well…since it’s my first laptop I really have no clue what to do.
I don’t have virus protection yet, but I do have a 60 day trial and all that good stuff when you buy a new laptop. The parents want me to buy all the stuff I need first….Microsoft office word etc. and virus protection, a bag…and so on.
Also…how do I get internet outside of my house? wireless cards and such?
I’m kind of a neurotic and clueless at the moment about what to do. I don’t want to mess anything up.

A good free firewall is zone alarm. http://www.zonelabs.com, Also, save the
money from microsoft word, office, etc, by downloading open office@
http://www.openoffice.org. Enjoy your new computer, and don’t worry about
messing anything up. If you’re going to be constantly worried about
messing things up, you won’t be able to enjoy it.

You can use AVG free as your anti-virus. It’s good and free. As far as MS Word goes you can get a torrent or just buy it. I’m guessing you don’t know how to torrent, if not you can look it up on youtube or something plus that way it would be free as well. Internet outside your house. If your laptop has a built in Wi-Fi (wireless internet receiver) then you should be fine getting internet wherever you can get a signal and it’s not password protected.

naah, youre fine as long as you have the anti-virus trial you are okay, everything else, like Microsoft office are just additions to the system.

and to get internet out side your house you need to have wireless card, your computer might have you check to see if you do, if you dont you will need to buy one so you can use it. (wireless cards can only use internet at a limited distance)

    hope that helps.

you can email me if you have more questions

Dun worry, it’s pretty hard to mess things up. As far as free anti-virus goes, get AVG. If you’re buying, anything is okay: JUST DON’T GET NORTON!!

You can get a wireless card, but you’ll have to pay for it’s use (I think). Also buy Microsoft Office, it’s basically essential to have on a computer. Another option is OpenOffice which is free and can open all MS office files.

And no you don’t really need to wat to use your laptop, just don’t download anything suspicious (Limewire, torrents, etc.)

A bag would also be a good idea and maybe a good wireless mouse.

The free 60 days trial antivirus should be updated . Even if it’s new you should update Wundows and all security programs. If you are not planning on buying after the 60 days expiry date then you should consider getting one now.

You may be attempted to browse online to try it out nut only do so if your laptop is updated and have the proper security programs to protect your system.
