I have had my HP Pavilion laptop for about a year now and its really slow and has alot of viruses. So i might get a mac. But i mostly want to know if the mac is good cause i am going to buy one for my grandmas birthday. She wants to use it to see her family on msn.

Can you please answer these questions:

My freind told me that viruses dont even exist in a mac is that true?
What are the good and bad things about a mac?
Do you think i might have any difficulties with it?
Is it easy to use?
About how much does it cost?

Please dont tell me i shouldnt buy it because my hp laptop is still good or something….just answer the questions please.

    1) Viruses DO exist for nearly every platform, so your friend is wrong. I have first-hand proof of a virus from at least early 1996 or so on Apple IIe computers.
    2) The good things are the design patterns, layout, size, appearance, and usability. Macs are engineered a lot ‘tighter’ (more exact) than other computers/laptops, but the downside is the cost, and compatibility.
    3) Any difficulties you have will be weighed by your comfort zone – if you like using _ANY_ program that gets the job done, you will find most Mac programs much easier to use. If you are a power user for certain applications, I would highly recomend doing some research for those specific programs first.
    4) Macs start at about $1000 ($900 or so for some of the cheapest) all the way up to about $3000 for a high end laptop (some options can cause even this to go higher).

I luuuuurrrrvvvve my mac book pro.

I, like you, were unsure about moving from a windows laptop to a mac. I mean they are more expensive and the idea of changing systems after you have just gotten used to a PC is abit daunting… but i am so glad i did change, i find them massively more simple to use and unlike windows, when you ask it do do something, it actually does it!!

There is much debate over whether mac virus’s exist, and i can say that i have never heard, seen or experienced one and i am a chronic internet browser at heart.

The good things completely out weigh the bad. i would say they look amazing, feel smooth to operate and compared to windows laptops hardly ever go wrong, also, if your grandma wanted to Communicate via webcam the macbook pro has a built in camera on the screen called an iSight. The only bad thing i can think of is that there is less software available for the mac, however more and more are introduced in recent years.

It may take a few weeks to get everything ‘"sorted" and for you to know your way around the system but its probably not too different to what you are used to now.

A downside is that they are more expensive, my mac-book pro cost me £1400, you can get one in the US for around $2000 dollars.

Well a GOOD mac laptop is quiet expensive. I will recommend you go with Windows, Its more compatible with almost 95% of all software and hardware…Also don’t get Vista, Get Windows XP Make sure to have at least 2GB of RAM good luck.

My freind told me that viruses dont even exist in a mac is that true? true. viruses very rarely get macs.
What are the good and bad things about a mac? good: its compatible with literally anything. Bad: it doesn’t like print servers.
Do you think i might have any difficulties with it? probably not. i have one because my windows crashed…
Is it easy to use? very. i had it up and running right out of the box.
About how much does it cost? around a thousand. i got mine for 900, because it’s rephurbished. but rephurbs run just as good as the normal ones.
