Hello People.

Our Toshiba laptop two weeks ago became infected with more viruses then ever, even when I have removed several from the laptop myself (which are painstaking and time consuming as to avoid destroying it). We had no single way of how to determine where the viruses where coming from. All the laptop does now once we turn on the power is load up untill we see either the Toshina or Windows logo and then turns off again and then turn itselfs back on again. Last time a relative was on the laptop in safe mode searching for a file name. I suggested that at all no file should be deleted untill I looked into it. They said that none were deleted, but I am still full of doubt, could you tell me can the software that assists in the starting up of the laptop be deleted or can it be corrupted to prevent us from using the laptop. Can it be fixed. Its a horror since theres bills to pay for the broadband and We cannot buy a new laptop now.

What can be done?
Free sites cause the problem and other family members failed to keep the filters and virus protection software on. Once it it dealt with we will increase the memory and have individual internet accounts with settings that will not be changed. The day before it happened a younger brother stopped deleting the temp internet files, when I said it should be done after closing every window and now the laptop needs to be scanned and searched for odd files daily.

Take it to a computer repair shop and have it fixed.
Install a good anti-virus program (I recommend AVG) and use it religiously.
Stop going to questionable web sites.
Don’t download every free bit of software you find, no matter how enchanting it appears to be.

You should have a Recovery Disk that came with your computer. Simply put it in the drive, turn your computer off with the disk in the drive. Then turn your computer on. It should start booting up going straight into the recovery mode and then you will be prompt what to do. If this doesn’t work, simply take it to a computer store. They will direct you where to take it or they will take it.
Shouldn’t be too much to dumping it and starting over like it was when you bought it. I’ve had my computer dumped a couple of times due to virus like your talking about.

The only way is to……complete format the harddrive……..complete means all partitions…..
The repartition it,,,load the window from CD and start using it…..recollect the data you have lost….nothing else…
An advice i’m giving you is …..always use an antivirus…download latest from net……….keep it turned on….
If the viruses are comming from pendrives/flashdrives……my advice is …
never open the pendrive by double clicking/right clicking…always open from addressbar………If you double click the pendrive icon…..virus will be executed………

you can do a system recovery if you have got the system recovery disks. that will format your hard drive and everything on it will be gone and then you will get your laptop in a condition it was when you bought it. if you wanna save your some important files then try to boot with some bootable CD and then backup your data and then do a system recovery and not forget to use an antivirus from now on.

if you have a windows disk or a restore disk run them and have to do a format and install or a erase and install. If your computer does not have disk that came with it try running form a recovery partition you can usally do this by pressing ctrl F8 F10 or F11 wheen the machine is booting up

I would recommend you buy a new hard drive, install it and the operating system. Then download the free avg from grisoft.com . Then put your old drive in a external usb holder and scan both drives with the free avg. You can then transfer your needed files to your new drive. Once you have all the old files transfered you can format the old drive and use it for additional storage

i am assuming that you had bought this laptop new, so what ya should do, is take the cd that came with it, place it into the cd drive, and let the laptop reboot. what will happen is the bios on the motherboard will read through all the drives, floppy, cdrom, then hard drive.normally the floppy,or cdrom doesnt have an disc with an operating system ( o.s ) on it,so it ignores it,but with the windows disc in it, the laptop will ask if you want to boot from cd, or hard drive.select from cd. at that point you will have the option of letting windows attempt to repair the installation, or just wipe the drive, and start from scratch. if ya have nothing barring from a wipe, ( like pics etc that you must have )id go that route.most places like best buy typically just replace your hard drive, costing you more because their tech can charge you for the time to swap a drive, setup your o.s,and the cost of a hard drive.this method, will cost nothing but time if you do it yourself
