You have a brand new laptop with those great spec and it slows down already ?

Are you sure there’s no virus, malware, adware ? Because that’s usually the things that hog down a laptop’s performance. Have you updated your antivirus ?

    Startup programs ?

    Defrag ?

If all else fail, you should revert back to when your computer is fine using the Restore Point.

Or you could always reinstall Windows.

Personally I’d advise you not to use Vista. Well, at least not until they release Service Pack1. It has too many bugs and issues to begin with.

check the startup.. it could be to many applications are loading on bootup.. you can see it at the lower righthand side of the screen.. what are the application in the memory.. check also the task manager..

  • One Computer Guy says:

1 – How many programs have you installed since you bought it?
2 – How many programs have you installed in the last few weeks?
3 – How many programs have you installed the past few days?

    And again.

1 – How many programs have you UNinstalled?
2 – Have you done your Vista Updates?
3 – How MANY anti-virus, anti-spyware programs that you have installed and are STILL running when you load vista?

    check those things.

Because dude it’s not only malware that starts activating after a period of using your pc it’s ms services like for example SMB for file sharing dhcp clients bla bla bla plus all the software that comes with a functioning windows environment. check your proccess list against that of a fresh install, as you activate more of windows it slows down. But then you knew that didn’t you?

To be completely honest, I’m pretty sure you just got ripped off. Did your computer ever get damage done to it? If not, I think that you have bought a lackluster Toshiba laptop that was made to break so you’d buy a new one regardless of the gigs and RAM. Oh, and Vista is a pretty mediocre OS to start with.

Go Back to MSCONFIG and untic Everything in the Startup TAB. Then go to the Services TAB – Hide all Microsoft services, then untic everything that is left and then reboot.

Do not load any third part software including your anti virus suite if you have one or a third party Firewall.

    Failing the about recommendations -
Try starting in Safe Mode (F8) and see it that improves start up speed.

The biggest cause of slow pc’s is two many programs running and not enough RAM.

Other causes are – Temp Internet Files/cookies

    Overheating

    corrupt registry.

    Hard Drive Full

Swap File (Page File) manually set and it is too small. Let the Pc manage the page file.

    Fragmentation of the HD.
