I am buying a new laptop. Is the comcast norton ok,or do i need additional protection? The geek squad at best buy wants to sell me tons of antivirus plans?Any thoughts?
If I stay with the norton do I need to disengage the antivirus pakage it comes with. Thanks everyone. This is so cool!

i’m using avast home edition . The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb’s. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses .
To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself .

I get free McAfee thru Comcast and it seems to be fine.
Norton is good. Please keep in mind if you have multiple anti virus software sometimes can cause errors and they may see eachother as a virus.
The best anti-virus software is free. I can get Norton and McAfee free from my university, but I chose not to because they are worthless. I use Avast! on my computer, and it works great. I have not ever gotten a virus. AVG is a good one too which is also free, but I prefer Avast!.
Geek Squad basically exists to rip you off. If they tell you that you need X program for this, and Y program for this, ect., they are just trying to get money out of you. Instead of using Geek Squad, you’re better off consulting a smaller specialized computer store. In any case, Norton is worthless, and will just hog your system resources. Stick with Avast! or AVG.
If they could they would sell you there kitchen sink
. If you just a home user you should be fine with the free version of Norton I have been using it since they changed from McAfee and it works great. It may take a few minutes to get used to the interface, but the good new is it uses way less memory then Mcafee and runs a hell of a lot quicker also. If you want to play it extra safe download spybot and spyblaster which are both free. Here are the links to both http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
If you use spybot do not choose the tea timer option. Norton has the same feature.
and spyblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
