I keep getting messages from an anti-virus program that I never even installed! Of course to get all their crappy warnings (along the lines of your computer will BLOW UP!) to go away, I have to go to their website and buy their product. I already had anti-virus software on my computer and when I run it, it says everything is fine….Is this a scam?

If it is a red circle with an X in the middle its a system warning. anything else is a program to help you choose a good program and sometimes they can be scams. I would suggest Avast. You can get the Home edition for free, just download avast home, register for it with your real email. and check your email for the home edition key code and enter it when you open avast. the best thing about avast i believe is when you download something, and if it has a virus in the download avast warns you and stops the download before its finished. even on limewire and stuff like that.

I had the same problem with norton anti virus. Somehow they got on my computer and when I woke up one morning there was a screen on my puter that said you have an infection clikc here to scan for free.

I didn’t have an infection and after asking around, I dound out that norton partnered with a flash company and when I updated my flash, I had this Nortaon antivirus on my comppter and they didn’t even ask if I wanted to put them on my computer.

I woul get rid of any uninvited programs from my computer. There is a free anti virus called AVG that i use and it works fine.

It is called ‘fakealert/trojan’ by McAfee. This is a nasty bug. You can try to remove it by running superantispyware, which is free. But ultimately, you may need to pay for professional assistance. McAfee has a great Virus Removal Service for $89.95
