Do you want a free AV with security holes in it or do you want one that really works?
Here they all go again. Download this, Download that. But as usual they never tell the whole full truth about the free AV’s. I will.
There is no such thing as a best free anything. Especially AV’s. They all have there problems. No one but me seems to be willing to tell the truth about them.
Here is a link to the AVG page. Thought i would post this before somebody started spouting the glory of AVG.
Why people want to keep lying about this piece of garbage is beyond me. I was a beta tester for AVG twice. I beta tested the 9.0 version. All you get is AV that doesn’t detect or remove Trojan malware. It has anti spy, That’s all. No root kit protection running in real time. No real time = infected. It’s full of faults positives, It runs heavy/uses to much memory, It doesn’t update it’s self, Sometimes refuses to update at all. It’s junk.
Avast isn’t much better. It doesn’t have heuristic scanning in the free version. Why anyone would want it is beyond me. With no heuristics your leaving yourself wide open to attack from infected pages and downloads. Also drive by downloads. If you get attacked by a heuristic virus Avast may detect it, But it will not remove it.
Avira, A lot like AVG. It does have better detection and removal than the other two. But what it does have is lots of faults positives. It will refuse to update it’s self, It will just stop running leaving you to believe you are protected when your not.
Why people refuse to tell the truth about these free AV’s is mind boggling to me. Why they would say a out right lie and tell someone that a free AV works just as good as a paid AV is mind boggling to me. How could anything with parts missing be good?
If you really want to be protected get a paid AV like Kaspersky internet security. If you do you will never look back and you will also figure out that you were being lied to about the free AV’s.
Be careful who you listen to on here. Most will tell you half truths and whole lies. Especially when it comes to AVG.
I’m a Kaspersky user, Been using it for almost 3 years. I had to learn the hard way about fee AV’s. Once i got off the free band wagon and realized that if i did my own research to find out what is best, Then i found out how many people on here really have no idea what there talking about and how many will just right out lie. Others will send you to some website that will make your computer worse.
And it does have a fire wall. The best in the business. Don’t let anyone tell you it doesn’t. Read for yourself. Click on key features.
Learn to do your own research. People on here will tell you half truths and whole lies. Everything i have said here can be proven with just a little research.
Also. Why anyone would want to download a free AV from the same people that brought us the windows running system is beyond me. They have been trying for years to get windows to work right. Hasn’t happened yet. We are suppose to believe that they can get a AV to work right even though they can’t get there running system to work right?
I know you said that you can’t afford a paid AV. But think about it, Pay now or pay later. Free AV’s will let you down. If you have to put a free AV on it then i guess that’s what you have to do. It’s a shame to have to put a low rate free AV on a brand new computer.
go to cnet.com i got the AVG one there for free and we use it at work too. that and the defender that comes with windows are good. i haven;t had any problems
You can go to cnet or filehippo, they have free and paid ones, read the reviews and decide which you like best,no a/v program is 100% whether it is paid or free, there are millions of web sites out there unless they can be monitored 24/7,52 weeks of the year, one virus will get through sooner or later.
For your Anti-Virus……I would suggest Avast 4.8 Avast now includes anti-virus, some anti-spyware capability and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
(Always use only 1 A-V…You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict… did I mention that you MUST uninstall any and all, old anti-virus products?)
Avoid the anti-virus called AVG (free version). It is wildly popular with children and the computer illiterate but has historically had the lowest virus detection rate of all the popular free anti-virus programs.
You know my opinion is that its better to buy an antispy and an antivirus progam than just downloading it free. And the reason is because those free antispy or antivirus protection programs can infect your computer with spyware, viruses, keyloggers etc. And if you buy those protection programs you 100% know what is going to do to your computer.
Only single antivirus cannot help you in tough situations .
You need a combination of softwares to help protect ur PC and optimize it .
Here is the combination that I use
Avast antivirus > Malwarebytes > Super Antispyware > Comodo Firewall .
u can use AVG or Avira FREE in place of Avast , thats ur choice
As Far as avast is concerned , u need to register for free , give them ur email address and
they will send u a free licence key for avast (i.e. for 1 year ) and u are entitled to use
the software for 1 year !

Think about it.
I, personally, like Avira…it is very easy on the system (not a resource/memory hog). Others include Avast and AVG.
Avast! is good.
