i’m using Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0. The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb’s. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses .
To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself .

most of these paid for anti-virus software take up a lot of ram, but they offer realtime protection
and a firewall if you have the internet suite security program,in other words you can make more adjustments to the firewall than the regular windows os firewall, microsoft security essentials is free
uses less ram ,but the hdd space for it in the long run can reach up to 100mb, so far it doesn’t blog down the pc like other security programs, i use it on my laptops not on my desktop, read up on the free ones alot are not free as they say , you only get half the proctection and have to pay for the full version

Its all a matter of opinion. I use Avast , I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

  • NO6664ME says:

No,it’s not necessary to by a full security suite when you can piece one together with free and some free software rivals paid. If you decide to go with free, you’ll need a firewall,an anti-virus,and an anti-malware.For these I suggest:
1.Comodo Internet Security (just get the firewall and not the av)
    2.Avast 5 for the anti-virus
    3.Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware or SUPERAnti-Spyware and Ad-Aware for malware/spyware

These are free at CNET at http://www.download.com
Make sure you properly uninstall the other anti-virus fully or you won’t be able to install another.

Free ones are good, but you have to get more then one programs such as microsoft security essentials doesn’t have a firewall which you need to add one. Yet, not all antivirus detect everything.

    You can use SpywareNoMore.
As we all know Computer hackers seeking financial gain rather than thrills or notoriety are increasingly flooding the Internet with malicious software code (spyware, adware, key loggers, trojans). They are infecting computers with highly sophisticated programs that record surfing habits, bank passwords and other key financial data and send them to crooks over the Internet. These programs can be hard to spot, disguised in downloads such as toolbars, search engines, browser accessories, screen savers and other seemingly helpful utilities.

SpyNoMore anti-spyware safeguards your identity and restores system performance through fast, smart and powerful spyware protection.
