i just bought a new Toshiba laptop…my old laptop i bought used had Avast already on it….i never had any problems getting rid of a virus with it by going through the "safe" mode….so should i pay for Norton or download Avast for free?

in my opinion avast is better, norton is just too heavy on the system

  • Tayman says:

Well, I would say norton is better BUT it’s not enough to pay for the antivirus. Just use avast and it’ll catch all the antiviruses you need. Now if you go on sites that are known to have viruses, then you should probably get norton.

    Hope this helps!

Look through the pages in Y!A and you will see that people who use the free ones are the ones who have the viruses and cannot get rid of them. Here is a review:

I use Norton and it works. I do think you need about 1gig of memory on winXP to give it some room.

Avast will definitely beat norton in detection.

go with avast. don’t use norton,it’s not that great and it is a ***** to get rid of if you decide to uninstall.

I was a faithful Norton user for years…until i ran some free off-line scans and told me i had infections…i did not believe it at first..then my computer started to slow down…since i had the disc..i uninstalled Norton 2009 and downloaded another AV product…worse case senario i could always put Norton back on since i still had the disks…well to make a long story short I hate all Norton products….why ?…..listed below are the three programs i have on my computer ….when i first scanned with all of them they found 456 infections Norton never found…I have also helped friends get Norton off their computer…and get this…i just read an article to were it said hackers buy the disc and then look for holes in the system…so if you have norton they get right through……anyway the 3 i have on my pc now have done a great job..and i will not switch to anything else….
