My sister was opening a youtube, then suddenly got a msg from Norton anti virus saying that yr pc is infected by a virus, though the Norton Anti virus full package was on and running, the weird thing then the Anti virus was turned off!! I had to re Key the product key again to activate it, and after that the word docs are gone with this message, I asked Norton people they said they’re willing to remove the virus and try to restore the files and be charged with 0, I bought the whole package with this amount so i refused, can’t afford it now, what’s the best solution… is the virus still in, should i re install everything again, the operation system and the other applications,, pls advise.
thanks in advance

Norton is a Rip off… Go to download.com and download a anit virus program called AntiVir…. It’s free… I’ve never had a problem. I used to use AVG but I find antivir to be better. You may also want to download a spyware remover as well… Download.com will have reviews of some of the best ones… As far as restoring your files… do a search to see if they are anywhere on the PC… Also check the recycle bin.
reloading office doesn’t get rid of the virus. If you have a virus, and you have a full Norton package, run a full scan of the system to find any viruses and remove them. Sounds like the virus removed your word files. Honestly, I would save any data you need on CDs or removable hard drive and wipe the system clean and reload EVERYTHING. That way you are assured the virus is completely gone.
Sounds like the virus got to Norton before Norton could get to the virus. Try this:
I suggest you download the free Stinger utility from McAfee and run it in Safe Mode. Stinger’s only purpose in life is to detect attacks on the major A-V programs.
It’s so good at it the publisher has had to change its name a few times to keep malware from defending against it.
Note that Stinger does not take the place of any other malware removers. You should still run them, probably also in Safe Mode.
Also note that Stinger won’t necessarily repair any damage the malware caused. You may have to reinstall Norton.
To get into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking:
1.Log out and reboot your machine.
2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3.Select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking from the resulting menu.
4.Login. In case the malware has changed your password, try logging in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.
5.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different.
6.When you’re finished doing what you need to do, log out and reboot back into normal mode.
Good luck.
