I’m looking to buy a laptop under 0, hopefully a Mac, slightly used or new, with capacity for Photoshop CS3 and a decent amount of memory. I’m a senior in highschool and my computer has basically crashed due to the WIndows XP AntiVirus 2008 Virus, and I’ve tried at least twenty different methods of getting the virus off and nothing seems to work.

I’ve resorted to just buying a laptop, but it definitely needs to be able to hold Photoshop.

Any ideas?

Thank you guys so much!

EDIT:

Thank you for the advice– I was originally just going to get it wiped clean, but my parents were saying it would cost somewhere around 0. From what you’re saying, though, it should cost about 0 and save me a lot of trouble.

Thanks again!

Get someone to reformat your old laptop for free (wipes it completely clean. Gets rid of any and all viruses 100% guaranteed), install sygate firewall and avg antivirus free. The firewall will stop many attacks, the virus scanner will auto scan and auto update and keep your comp clean and if you keep getting updates through windows updates you don’t have to worry about security vulnerabilities.

In my personal opinion $400 isn’t really a lot of cash to buy a capable computer (even used) that will run Photoshop CS3 worth a darn. At that price it will probably be a mac-mini, ibook, or old macbook… none of them have dedicated video cards. I guess you can give it a whirl if you’re desperate, just don’t expect photo-editing to be extremely slow.

    Good luck!

go to dell.com and type in clearance and find a laptop there. they are cheap.

well i suggest u to install an linux system such as ubuntu and u can use vmware to run ps CS3 . it won’t catch a virus easily.

well what you can do is take your modem to a computer shop and have them reformat the computer, by doing so they wipe your hard drive clean so basically you start off with a new computer, this should cost no more then 100 dollars. By doing this though you lose all the data on your computer, but some shops offer to back up you saved data first before reformatting it. but if you want a laptop, you can try craigslist.com and try looking for a good used laptop or even ebay.com. try shopping as well, some laptops start as low as 400 dollars, or some are 400 dollars after mail in rebate. if you do decide to buy a laptop, do some research first. in my opinion i would just take it to the shop and tell them to reformat my modem.

it would never cost you more than £5 if you got someone else to wipe your harddisk. I will guess that your parents aren’t very technological?
