he also says certain anti-virus (e.g. Norton) will bog down system so they install what works best. they won’t tell you what that is so you can just buy it. also says that there is a bunch of pre-installed software on the HP that you can’t really delete without going in to REGEDIT?? file.

is this a bunch of hooey that I would need to optimize a brand new computer?

thanks in advance.

    Don’t do it.

Take it home, learn your computer. If you feel you want to remove something, just research it before you do.

It’s best to learn how to customize your computer yourself.

Then when you get stuck you can use your favorite search engine or this site for answers.

Save the 100bucks and spend it on a good bottle of wine.

Install AVG Home free edition and try the auslogics optimization link on the repairs page at http://cebucustomcomputers.tripod.com they are all free!
If you like the Auslogics Speed Booster and repair module and want to keep it, after two weeks, either delete it and reinstall or buy it for $39.95
It is a bunch of hooey too!
You can disable or delete anything that is unnecessary with this tweak, the Auslogics Speed Booster!
Or, you can go online to many sites and spend 2 days learning how to do it manually!

Lol, you went to best buy for computer help? They will always over charge you and charge you for the most random things. Hell you could install free anti virus and anti spyware apps yourself. NEVER believe anything they say. Take the computer to a real computer shop.

If you have any PC skills at all you can do it yourself.
    It’s a bunch of hooey.
PC Decrapifier can get rid of a lot of the ‘trial-ware’ or you can just uninstall it yourself.

Go into the bathroom and wash the CHUMP on your forehead. You and the rest of the world may not be able to see it there, but the rube at Best Buy sure does.

The pre-installed software can be removed with Add/Remove software in control panel. The have a slightly different name in Vista, but the function is still there.

You can download and install AVG anti-virus for free after you get your machine. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/frt/0?prd=aff

And do not forget Spyware protections – Sypbot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

Do not pay these jokers to do what you can do yourself in a matter of minutes.
