i got this spyware thing recently. at random moments, it will have pop ups and it is a custom notification on my toolbar on my desktop. its always flashing, tellin me i have a virus/spyware, when really, the virus/spyware i have is that notification thing. the pop ups tell me to buy their anti virus programs.
dont tell me to download antivirus/spyware remover software. thats one of the problems…
i already had norton antivirus, it has always worked, its up to date and renewed, its fine, its norton’s best program but when i do full system scans with it, it says i have NO viruses/spyware when i obviously do because of the pop ups and notifications.
so…i download some other trustworthy scans and anti virus programs and they are the same thing! they tell me i have no viruses or spyware or threats. the two programs i downloaded are AVG and Lavasoft.
tell me how to get rid of this virus or spyware i have. but DONT TELL ME TO DOWNLOAD ANOTHER ANTIVIRUS/VIRUS SCAN PROGRAM.
i have asked this question be4 but the only thing ppl tell me are "oh, download this program and use this, its better" ive tried 3 programs already and they all say i have no virus.
but i do! i get pop ups becuz of this notification bar.
how do i get rid of these pop ups and notification button. dont tell me to geta pop up blocker or anythign becuz i have tried 4 of those too. and i have a program that blocks spyware.
nothing works!

More infomation and another free removal tool called RogueFix can be found here:

Good luck.

try checking your process’ with ctrl+alt+del, see if there is anything running that shouldnt be. and since you dont want to download another virus scanning software im gonna say try a online spyware scanner, most companies have them for free.
Adaware from lavasoft is a great program indeed and included in this free tool.Give it a try.

yep you are right you have spy-ware.. and it real hard to get rid of. I had the same problem. Is it called something like spy falcon? anyway what ever it is called do a search for it on google and look in the forums that come up.. there is a very nifty little program that you can download and run to clear it up but make sure you follow the instructions to the letter.
Good Luck
Well, depending on how long this has been going on, it may be too late to suggest this, but in XP, you could try a system restore on a date when you first recollect the problem *not* happening. That would pretty much clear out any registry entries that the malicious code has inserted to cause the spyware to start up with your computer.
However, System Restore will undo any other program installations that you’ve made to your computer since the problem started happening, so hopefully it hasn’t been happening for so long that you can’t safely return to a restore point.
I’m guessing you tried Spybot… Ouch! Don’t kick me for suggesting another download… it’s just that I’ve had great success with Spybot, but no solution is perfect, because hackers will continue to work around the programs. Sometimes it just takes time for the spyware folks to release updates… just like anti-virus programs need updates once they find a cure for newer viruses.
PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!!! I HAD THE PESTTRAP VIRUS IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS IT ALMOST WRECKED MY COMPUTER PLEASE READ THIS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pest_Trap
I DOWNLOADED THE YAHOO VIRUS PROTECTION AND IT GOT RID OF PEST TRAP AND ALL THE OTHER VIRUSES I HAD. HOPE THIS HELPS
When this pop-up occurs, right click on it to get the properties. Then go to your "Control Panel" from your start menu, next to "Add or Remove Programs".
Look very carefully at the programs to see if there is something there that matches.
My husband had a real pesky adware the other day, in spite of using McAfee and having it up-to-date and also SpyBot <which I recommend-it’s free>, and running both of these checks through several times, we went into the control panel and found the problem. I did look up the "property" listed from the pop-up on google to see what others said about it. We had to go from Add or Remove to the adware site to get the d### thing off, but it did finally go!
It is frustrating! Good Luck!
If you get Spy Bot, you need to download updates weekly or so. Then scan and remove problems and finally immunize. I use this on my daughter’s computer and my own and we’ve stayed clean, by and large.
I also use AVG free anti-virus. It’s been great.
All i can say is backup your files and then format your pc, watch out for sites that sells anti viruses.
But dont trust Norton, i also have the newest version and did scans and said i had know viruses, but i did, and got another antivirus who saw the virus that norton didnt, So keep an extra anti virus.
Keep Scanning again and again using different Spyware Programs
All the Best
