i uninstalled the current outdated antivirus program and it said to restart my computer which i did so i thought everything was fine. i went to install the new software and the same screen saying to uninstall the old stuff came up again and when i looked in the control panel it said the old program was still there…….so when i went to uninstall the old stuff again the computer said it couldnt because some compenents were missing???? so now i cant install the new stuff until i get rid of the old stuff which i cant seem to do…….would call the computer company i bought it from help or wut should i do

    It would help if you mentioned what you are trying to uninstall. Repost your question with the name. However, if you are talking about Norton/Symantec download the removal tool:

    Yes, its a pain having to deal with Microsoft and their viruses, eh? So – what is the old one? Sometimes they have uninstallers to fix that problem.

    This happens once in a while. I’ll tell you how to fix it, but it’s risky if you take a wrong step. First, find the folder in your hardrive that had the old virus scan and delete it. Then, click on Start then click run. Type in ‘regedit’ and press enter. A program will open. Click on edit then find. Type in the name of the old anti-virus program and press enter. When it finds an entry, delete it. Keep doing this till it says it can’t find anymore.

    I’ve done this numerous times. It works. But, you do so at your own risk. Regedit is a program that if used improperly, can seriously screw up your windows installation. Good luck. Maybe someone will give an easier answer. If not, I’m confident this will work if done right.
