Windows said I had a trojan virus, so i bought defender pro 2009 from wal-mart. I ran the scan and it found 4 or 5 infected files. I deleted the files, but whenever I open internet explorer there are pop ups and it redirects me all over the place. Can someone please help me repair this problem?

You may have a spyware infection in addition to a couple of trojans. Download SuperAntiSpyware & Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Once installed, download the latest definitions, disconnect from the internet, boot your computer in safe mode (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html), and run a full system scan. Delete/clean any infected items, then reboot.
If you remember the name of viruses you deleted, do a couple of google searches. You’ll find more information about the infection (how to delete the virus properly, manual removal instructions,etc.)

To find and detect trojans, make sure you’ve updated your AV program with the latest definitions. Then run and delete infected items in safe mode. You can also download and install the trial version of Trojanhunter.

Yep, download firefox, it runs better than IE.
Get a decent antivirus like avast or NOD32.
Install and update regularly.
