I would strongly recommend you consider purchasing a product. Computer security is rather important. Besides protecting your data and important info (financial info, Social Security Number, etc), your computer runs much faster without viruses and malware present. There is a reason that products like Spyware Doctor charge, and it is because they do a better job than the free scanners out there.

Also be careful to avoid downloading random free products. A lot of them are actually badware claiming to be a cleaner.

If you do decide to buy a product I would recommend one of the following.

If you are making a purchase for a business computer, I would recommend Scrubit and Repelit. They are from a company called itSoftware (http://itSoftwareProducts.com ). Their spyware detection is significantly better than even Spysweeper and Spyware Doctor. However, they only sell to businesses, so if you are a home machine, they will not be an option for you.

If you need protection or a home machine, I would recommend either Spyware Doctor or Spysweeper. They are not as good as Repelit or Scrubit, but they are much better than just about anything else on the market right now.

Look up avast! Antivirus. Its free any works better than some programs that cost money. And don’t be tricked by programs with "free scans". They tell you there is a virus only to get you to buy their software. If avast! or Ad-aware (great program by the way) doesn’t find anything, then there isn’t anything to be worried about.

    SUPERAntiSpyware:

    A-Squared:

Ewido (Now called AVG Anti-Spyware) do not download AVG anti-virus.
    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

All the above have a free edition, that’s probably what you will want to download.

Beware of "Free" downloads. Too often, they contain or hide unwanted malware, spyware, and viruses that "ride piggyback" on them. Just like there are good and bad habits, proteins, cholesterol’s, calories, fats, etc., there are good and bad "freebies". Want a freebie you can trust?
What’s wrong with returning to the "Mother Ship" Microsoft?
The Malicious Software Removal Tool and Windows Defender are two outstanding programs available to legitimate customers without charge. (Oops, did I just use the L-word?) Here is another little tip for you: Detecting and locating threats is 99% of the solution. Once you know what and where they are, just delete them! Then, create a new System Restore checkpoint of your current "clean system"; and delete previous restore points that may contain copies of threats. The best "freebie" is doing it yourself!

Download Norton, AVG , Avast which are free antivirus software. They do protect your computer and you can keep updating them once in three days or so. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
