Safe mode doesn’t run any unnecessary programs, which includes sound, so if ur in safe mode it’s assumed you don’t need sound to fix the virus problem so no, you can’t get more than the beeping. as for a free anti-virus.
AVG anti-virus. You have to download it from online BUT it’s free and works the best out of any anti virus I’ve ever used.

The entire point of safe mode is that it is Windows barely operating as Windows, and not using "extended features" of your particular system’s hardware (Excessive video cards, audio drivers, or online access). So – No, You can’t get sound in safe mode (and use it on a regular basis to do everything with).
As far as antivirus, You don’t need an online scanner, and to fix an already virused computer, use the hard drive as a secondary drive in a known clean system, with up to the minute current virus protection running, and hope the Win files themselves aren’t shot, which means either a repair session or a hard drive wipe.
The 4 most recommended antivirus programs that are free are ;
http://www.free-av.com = Avira antivirus, i use this one.

Good luck!.
Computer problems ≠ VIRUSES
Your BSOD problem is most likely caused by faulty drivers or failing hardware, NOT viruses.
You cannot have sound in safe mode, because safe mode is basically your computer with all non-critical drivers removed. This includes graphics, sound, and network drivers. All will not work in safemode, because they are forbidden from being loaded into the running kernel.
Your computer being stable in safemode, and crashing out of safemode indicates a bad driver. While in safemode, go into Device Manager and uninstall the drivers for your graphics and sound devices. Then boot normally, download the latest drivers for those devices and install.
You don’t have to mess with antivirus at all.
Besides, a simple Google search for "free antivirus" will give you more leads for free scans than you can handle.
here is a list of online virus scanners Onecare.Live.com (this is microsoft’s) Housecall.Trendmicro.com Symantec.com Comodo.com these are free and will remove them from your machine..yes they work in safemode
