Well when I got this computer, it came with a 90 day trial of Norton Internet Security+Anti-Virus, and after it expired I got Norton 360 All-In-One. I had to uninstall the old Norton to install the new one, so I did. Then when i turned on my computer at the task tray (or whatever it’s called, the icons at the bottom right.) There was a flashing red circle w/ a X in the middle and it said "System Alert". My background was overlapped by a big red toxic sign and under that "YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER!". A lot of pop-ups kept coming up saying "System Alert" "Worm was detected on your computer, click yes to delete this worm now.", "Windows Security Alert" "Windows has detected an Internet attack attempt… Somebody’s trying to infect your PC with spyware or harmful viruses. Run full system scan now to protect your PC from Internet attacks, hijacking attempts and spyware! Click here to download spyware remover for total protection.", and when I open up Internet Explorer, the home page is an ad telling me to buy a spyware remover. Even when I change the homepage, it changes back whenever I open Internet Explorer. I installed Norton 360 All-In-One and ran virus scans and things, but they didn’t detect anything. Should I get a different anti-virus program? Thanks for the help =]

Your PC is infected with a smitfraud trojan. There are 2 ways to remove it. Both are free.
http://www.superantispyware.com
or,
use the smitfraud fix.

Try these 3 instead… they’re free, and what I use myself (they also use less system resources than Norton, and don’t cause any software/hardware conflicts):
AVIRA Anti-VIR PersonalEdition Classic:
http://www.free-av.com/
SPYBOT: Search & Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/
ZoneAlarm Firewall (free Edition)
http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=56pus&ctry=GB&lang=en
For a pay for option, try:
ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

You may also want to try replacing Internet Explorer with "Mozilla Firefox", as it’s less vulnerable to dodgy Active-X controls and other nasties (it also runs faster… and on the rare occasions it does crash, it lets you resume where you left off)
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
And "Mozilla Thunderbird" if you’re still using Outlook express to download E-mail

the best free anti virus software is AVG
it works great
you also need a firewall program
sygate seems to be a decent one but it’s not free
you also may wish to install mcafee site advisor – free – it tells you if a site is good or bad
Yes,you should.Try some of these, they are all FREE,try ad-adaware first,I think it should delete them.
http://www.grisoft.com They have FREE software you can use to remove viruses, spyware, etc.
http://www.spywareterminator.com GREAT FREE anti spyware/virus software.
http://www.lavasoft.com Good anti adware software
http://www.clamav.net Good antivirus software
http://www.avast.com Usefull because of their "virus vault" feature
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com for a firewall.
All of the above are free, and I list so many because some programs won`t
remove some viruses,so if one doesn`t solve your problem, try another,I personally
recommend using Avast & AVG (www.grisoft.com) for antivirus and Spyware Terminator for antispyware
and Adaware (www.lavasoft.com) for anti adware and Personal Firewall for my firewall..
