My computer has been infected with spyware virus for a week by now. I left it like that for like 4 days then I went out to buy an antispyware program. I bought McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007.
I bought it and installed it. The program scanned and removed some of the spyware but it is nowhere close to getting rid of every spyware. And m computer constantly turns off itself with blue screen popping up telling me that computer is turning off because of system failure or whatever.
I tried to turn on the computer on Safe Mode, it worked the first few times. However, now my computer would not even turn on. The blue error screen pops up everytime.
It is horrible. I do not want to reinstall the Windows XP again.
I can’t lose all my files. I spent 40 dollars on that stupid antispyware program too.

Please help me.

I am assuming that your McAfee included both spyware and anti-virus capability, but the problem sounds like you might have some corrupted disk areas.

Do you have an XP or XP Pro CD matching your system?

If you have, or can get, a Windows CD, try to boot on that CD and go into "R" (Repair mode). Select your windows installation ("1"), and at the command prompt enter chkdsk /R, which will scan the disk and repair it.

Next do FIXBOOT, and hopefully that will be enough to get you back.

If not, boot up again, select the install of windows, and then choose another type of repair install — it will check windows for completeness.

If that still doesn’t fix it, do a full install in another directory (normally WINDOWS, call it WINNT) – this is so you can have an operating system to back up your data from. Then completely clear your disk and restore it from your original media. The windows install key should be on the back or bottom of your machine.

I’m afraid, unless you are willing to spend a lot of money to get rid of the virus, you will have to lose your files and re-install XP.
You can go to Maxtor.com and download Powermax4.23 to a floppy disc.
Insert the floppy disc into your computer and re-boot it.
Follow the instructions and it will erase your hard drive (viruses and all). You can then re-install XP.
WARNING: This will erase everything on your hard drive!!!
So back up everything you want to save before you erase it.
This will also give you a chance to get rid of any unwanted items and start off fresh with XP.
    Good Luck,
    Ed
