What is the best anti-virus softare to get? I have heard of AVG, Norton, McAfee & Avast, any good?
Also, is it work getting the free or paid for version? What other criteria should I look at.
Thank you!
A distressed buyer!

I recommend paying for your Anti-Virus. Although people claim that free versions are just as good it really isn’t. Small companies that over free Anti-Virus’s can bundle there package with all sorts of rubbish and not have to worry bout it. Bigger companies have a reputation to keep so they have to offer you a good program that will give you what you pay for, which in a free Anti-Virus case is that you don’t get much. I would recommend you try Kaspersky 2009 http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/ or ESET NOD32 http://www.eset.co.uk/Products/AntiVirus/promotions/antivirus?gclid=CNLg6-K4rJkCFQ48QwodMEqRKQ. Both have a high detection rate, are light on resources and help thoroughly protect your PC. Stay away from Norton and McAfee, their awfull!
Avg= Epic fail not even worth the download and then cause problems when trying to get a rlly antivirus.
Norton= ok, a lot of versions, but may slow down ur pc.
McAfee= Good all round antivirus.
Avast= Doesn’t rlly get rid of virus.
Kaspersky interent secruity= The Best thing ever made, gets evrthing and has live protection to warn you off bad sites. Easy layout. I have this and i love it.
Paid anti virus are better. Free antivirus may detect a virus and it will tell you you have it but it will not get rid of it.
When buying an antivirus i would look for compalty with ur pc. How much room it needs and how much ram it needs to run. If it has fraud dection. If it can run will online to catch something before it even gets on your pc.
Save your money. It’s better to stop thinking "antivirus" programs will protect you.
Instead you should:
1. Set up and use almost exclusively a limited user account.

2. Google the phrase "social engineering" and read the first five results.

3. Install Windows updates automatically.

4. Use Firefox with the NoScript extension.

5. Turn off autorun in Windows:

6. Do not install or run "antivirus" software. It doesn’t actually protect you, it uses up system resources, and it makes you unnecessarily paranoid.
