These are 100% legit from respected companies:
Run both of these on-line scans. Both are free and excellent at detecting and removing malware free of charge. There is no need to un-install any of your current protections (if you have any) before using these.
1. Scan for virus, worms, dialers, etc. and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with BitDefender’s Online Scanner. Press scan now on the left.
http://www.bitdefender.com/
2. Scan for trojans, adware, cookies, and spyware and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press "Scan your computer now online and clean it for free!" on the left.

These scans will take quite a bit of time. The time is necessary to clean-up an infected computer.
Good luck.
it’s toll free. go to http://www.gooogle.com and type spyware remove tool and you should get a big list and just choose one.
Depends on the integrity of the company. I have run many free ones and not had a problem. The better company will find the problem and take care of it for you at no charge.
Yeah, most of the pop-ups that say "your computer is infected" are scams/ad-ware/spyware try running a real virus scanner like Ad-Aware .

I (personally) never trusted a virus scanner or free spyware scan. There are always be a reason why they are free. And as a matter of fact, they are the one which will actually infect your system.
Microsoft has a program that scans online for free and actually works, it is called Safety Scanner http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm . Also another good one that is highly recommended from a few different computing magazines is Housecall from Trend Micro. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Windows Defender is a decent free anti spyware program to download and install http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx .
Just have to search around and reading some reliable magazines reviews help.
yes. only run free software from a trusted website. never try a suspicious software.
Actually yes. From Kaspersky (actually, the scan took so long that I cancelled it). The ones that tell you that you are infected with trillions of viruses are themselves viruses. I once had a problem with DriveCleaner, that said I have about 220 viruses, but it turned out to be spyware. Do not trust any kind of free online scans, I did it and I felt sorry…
have a nice day! Louise
"i was just trying some free online scan to kinda see if my free programs were missing anything and it seems they tell you your infected and if you want to remove it itll cost ya lol"
I don’t know of any decent free scans that make you pay to remove infections — the only scans I know that do this are MALWARE themselfs.
You have to be sooooo careful when chosing a free security product — you do realise that MOST antispyware programs currently available are ROUGE/FAKE?
They cause false-positive results, create annoying popups saying "you are infected, buy this", etc, etc. and they are VERY hard to remove… some even contain trojans, keyloggers, spyware, adware, etc. They are NASTY…
I really hope you do not have one of these programs. Next time, read user comments and reviews on the program before installing…
Use smitfraudfix to remove them if you do have a rouge program creating these popups, etc.

Good, free, legit antispyware programs are;
SuperAntiSpyware
AVG Anti-Spyware
A-Squared
Spybot search and destroy
Spyware Doctor
