I have about 23 threats on my computer right now and i need them off! its messing with my computer. i don’t have the money to actually buy flat out an anti virus software. but are there any good free anti virus software that will REMOVE these threats off of my computer?! i really need this stuff of. i can already see it doing things to my system. oh and what is a good one to "buy" once i have the money anyway?

The thing telling you that you have 23 threats is probably a virus. You can get a good one at http://free.avg.com/ but chances are it’s too late to remove it yourself anyway. It probably won’t let you go to any of the real antivirus web pages. It may even take you to a look-alike page that tries to trick you into downloading more infections. But try AVG and see if that helps. Good luck.

Avira is far and away the best free av, in fact you can make a case it is the best period.
OK’ Now for the truth. There is no such thing as a "best free AV" All free AV’s have there security holes. When it comes to free AV’s there all turds. What you have to do is pick the one that stinks the least.
AVG, No root kit protection, Can’t remove half of what it finds, Worthless junk.
Avast, No heuristic scanning in the free version except for E-mail. You go to a site that is infected with that type virus it will not detect it or remove it. There are lots of viruses that i personally seen Avast unable to remove.
Avira, Has problems updating. It also has problems with faults positives.
The time for a good AV is before your computer gets infected. Lots of people on here will tell you that the job of a good AV is to clean up afterward. That’s something that i found to be a lie. A good AV will keep it from happening. The only one i have seen so far that works that way is Kaspersky. If your computer is clean it will stay clean with Kaspersky on watch.
You can download all that free junk if you want and see if it will clean it off. But there is only one AV right now that will keep it clean. Kaspersky.

The one below me has no idea what there talking about. By the time you download any free AV, Then a free firewall you will use more memory then a all in one would use. It’s common knowledge that AVG & Avast with a free firewall will use more memory. Another one of those lies i was telling you about. Free AV’s and firewalls use more memory. That’s the truth. Any one who says they don’t are either lying or don’t know what there talking about.

Well here’s what I have to add. The free antivirus softwares mentioned by those above (or below) are actually more preferable than those that you have to pay for (i.e Norton, McAfee). This is mainly because the free antivirus softwares (such as AVG, AVAST, Avira, just to name a few) have great detection rates that either perform on par or surpass those non-free antivirus softwares. The free ones also use up a lot less RAM.
