I personally have no idea on Kaspersky… AVG free I have used on my Windows systems and seems quite reliable and it has a small footprint as far as system resources are concerned. Norton on the other hand is very system resource intensive…gobbling up ram not unlike windows Vista! McAfee would probably fall somewhere between the two as far as I am concerned and falls about the same level as Avast which I have also run with no hitch. I have come to see the warrants of running Linux instead (Ubuntu 8.10) it is still much less susceptible to Virus and spyware with out need of third-party antivirus software to use up resources.
Norton and McAfee
AVG is free and isn’t a system hog like Norton’s.
If you don’t download stuff from questionable sites, don’t use p2p (like Limewire), or blindly open attachments, you don’t really need an anti virus program. If you’re smart about things you don’t really need it – anti-virus programs are more trouble than they’re worth. Plus anti-virus programs are weeks behind the latest virus strain so they don’t guarantee protection. If you have a anti-spyware program running and you’re behind a NAT router, you’re in good shape.
GAWD….SO MANY ILL-INFORMED PEOPLE HERE TODAY!
The new Norton Internet Security 2009 is said to run extremely light, unlike its predecessors. And its getting rave rewiews:

Mostly n00bs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG . People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!
The latest version of AVG runs extremly heavy.
Avoid AVG.
McAfee’s virus detection rates have dropped like a rock in recent years….I wouldn’t feed McAfee to my dog.
Since, for some reason, you seem to want "paid" solutions only, I suggest that you consider Eset NOD 32. It has excellent anti-virus detection rates and excellent heuristics.
