Is it because you supposedly buying a OS that gets no viruses? Isn’t cheaper to buy an anti virus on windows? I use windows for years and I only have minor issues. My friends are pushing me to get a Mac but I need a really good reason if I have to spend over 00 on a laptop. Is there something extraordinary Macs can do that windows can’t?
I recentely asked a question regarding not being able to download avg because it said that i had anti-virus installed after i tried removing mcafee
the most intreegin answer i got was this :
i am sorry to break it to you but mcaffee embeds itself into the os and in the registry so it can not be removed be a virus, but it is most likely not functional, and you can use avg but fyi, your computer will run like crap becuase mcafee will try and update and stuff like that all the time and just do weird things, i would recomend formating the hard drive and starting over
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;;
now i would like some information on this
i dont want to go ahead and do something that jeopidises my computers performance
surely it must be removable or else it would be illegal, as when i bought the laptop i had no inclanation to be apart of mcafee and had wishes to use a free anti-virus like avg 8.0 free edition.
maybe i should say that to pc world see what they say..
what is my best route.
i cannot download avg because it says i have already got anti-vuris installed, but i have done all i can to remove it, add/remove , and the mcafee removal tool
There are no files to do with Mcafee in the list off programmes Nick…
I have checked by searching by the publisher to and there is no mcafee..
When i try to download avg it says attention you have anti-virus installed, but i have removed all related mcafee from add/remove hardware…
My uncle bought this laptop( Acer Aspire 5000 of ) about 2years ago. at that time, the laptop worked very well. Then, he gave it for me. I also used it very about 4 months. But 1 moth ago, one time I scan virus by Spyware program which my uncle often used, then I click Fix all, the laptop was frozen and turn off. Fom that time, my laptop frequently turn off about 1 hour using it. And then, when I turn on again, I just used it about 10 minutes. I can not understand why? Please help me!!!!! What problem is happening with my laptop????
-I was using my laptpo today for about 10 minutes, then it began to freeze so I didn’t do anything. Then when it "recovered", my desktop looked like this: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc257/qweenzfinez/desktop.jpg
-Since I’ve had this laptop (Christmas ’08), I never could do a System Restore. I’v tried, but it wouldn’t even open the System Restore window.
-I usually use Opera as my Web Browser, but since today, I can’t even open it.
-All I’m able to use is Windows Internet Explorer, and at the top of amost every web page,it infoms me that I have ’18 Trojans on my machine’. Look: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc257/qweenzfinez/internet.jpg
-When I try to click on the link that’s @ the top of the pages, a little info box pops up informing me that "Your current security settings does not allow this file to download." (FYI: I never agreed to download anything)
-I KNOW for a FACT that I have Java Script enabled and everything, but for some reason, it’s telling me that because of my Internet Options, I can’t install the program.
-I can’t even see the images online.
-I’ve called ASUS (the company who made the laptop) & I keep getting a busy signal.
-I don’t know what number to call for Microsoft.
-I have ASUS EEE PC1000HD with Microsoft XP Home Edition.
-My laptop is very tiny, it doesn’t even have a CD slo or anything.
If anyone can help me i ANY way,I would really appreciate it.

I got a virus on my laptop that is driving me crazy! It has disabled my internet, Trend Micro Antivirus, and any other anti virus software I try to put on it. I have tried using the internet through my ethernet cable with out a result. I tried downloading a malware program on a different computer and then using a flash drive to put it on my laptop. Same thing happens as Trend Micro. NOTHING!
I ran my Webroot and it detected and quarantined trojan.agent.tdss
but at the end of the sweep my laptop preforms an emergency shut down.
I am at a loss of things to do!! Help! I would love not to have to buy a new laptop!

Here are the requirements for the newest Sims expansion:
1.8 Ghz processor (2.4 for Vista)
512 MB RAM (1GB for Vista)
Windows(R) Vista, Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000 Operating System.
8x or faster CD/DVD drive
At least 1.5 GB of additional hard drive space (5.0 GB total is required if installing both The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Apartment Life at the same time.)
A T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM.
I’m worried my 2.2 processor won’t be enough and the game with lag or not play like on my old comp. However, I know nothing about computers and was hoping the rest of my specs would make up for the lousy 2.2. I can go up to 2.4 but that’s an extra 125 and I really don’t want to pay that.
10 points for the most easy to understand answer and suggestions wouldn’t hurt either, but keep in mind, I AM buying this computer.
I recently bought a used laptop from a friend of mine and its riddled with adware and viruses. Instead of going through all of the hubub of cleaning it out manually, I want to completely swipe the disk and restore it to how it was when it was brand new. I know somewhat how to do it on xp, but can someone give me a guide to how to do it on Vista?
I didn’t get any disks with the laptop as it’s rather old (about two years) and my friend couldn’t find any of the original packaging. Is there any other way?
I have a Dell Latitude Laptop using Windows XP. I took it to Geek Squad because it was skipping and the freezing up when I played DVDs or any kind of audio. When it freezes I have to turn it off witut shutting it down. It also wouldn’t freeze right away..it freezes into about 10 minutes of playing DVDs or youtube videos. It was also making weird noises when it froze. Best Buy informed me that the noise wasn’t any hardware issue, but the kind of noise the computer makes when it’s frozen. They said nothing was wrong hardware wise, and that I had 6 viruses on the laptop. Well now, all those viruses are removed, and my laptop is still skipping and freezing when I play DVDs..to the point where I have to turn off the computer without shutting it down. If it’s not viruses, and geek squad said everything is fine with the computer physically, then what is it?
My friend in Nebraska has asked me to help her with her laptop (i live in AZ ,she used to live here too). She downloaded a bunch of viruses disguised as a virus danger warning from the main OS (ironic huh?) all I know to do is to take it to a computer store like best buy or get a free anti virus software. Any ideas on things that could help? by the way the thing that did it i think was called the antyvirus software fyi.

i have tried other link people have used but they all have given my computer a nasty virus. Once it was so bad, i bought a new laptop. please help! I love this movie to death and all i want to do and watch it!
my mom just got laid off from her job and our pc is going to crash soon because off all the viruses on it and i don’t have very much money saved up and i don’t wan to ask my mom for money so if anyone knows where i can buy a laptop cheaply i just need to use it for school
Ok the current laptop I’m using is 5 years old, the disk is full, and is running slowly. I tried getting rid of some things on my computer. Still slow. Checked for viruses. None. So you would think that my dad, a computer networker engineer, would say "Ok I’m going to get a new computer, because its old and its not like we are cutting back on money and stuff." Instead he keeps procrastinating and I’m getting tired of it because this is our only computer and I need it for school and surfing in general.
So my question is what is a good laptop I can buy (0-350) that is good for internet surfing in general? I’m thinking about the 0 Dell mini but I don’t know.
I have norton antivirus and when i was using the internet, i got a popup that said malicious software detected or something similar. When i clicked on my antivirus to clean it, my laptop turned off and when it turned back on, it just showed a blank screen. i tried running it in safe mode and i still got the blank screen. After it shows the "Windows Vista loading" screen it just goes blank. I dont have the vista cd because my computer came with vista installed and best buy didnt give me a cd. Im on a very very tight budget so i cant afford to go to geek squad. What can i do?
Dear all,
I just bought a Toshiba Satellite L450 Laptop (with Windows 7 Home Premium) from Best Buy 2 days ago. I setup the Norton Anti-Virus, setup the Wifi, changed the theme to make it feel more like my own computer, etc. Once I did all these things I then continued to use the laptop for a few more hours to check email, facebook, myspace, played a game, then shut the system down. When I shut it down, Windows restarted, then a screen popped up stating "Windows Preparing for Configuration". After this screen stayed on for a few hours, I manually shut it down.
In the morning, I turned on the laptop like normal, and again the screen stating "Windows Preparing for Configuration" came up again, and has been on this screen for about 2 1/2 hours now.
Is this normal??? I asked a friend about it and he suggests that since its brand new and I hadn’t restarted the computer once I loaded all the programs & internet, that the system just needs to boot up everything properly. When I talked to Toshiba tech support, they said that its is normal to take up to maybe 1 hour, but they have never experienced a customer waiting for over 2 hours.
Is there something I did wrong?? Yesterday I had to take care of a small tracking cookie w/ Norton Anti-Virus. Also I’ve added some programs from Adobe Suite 2.0.. could that have something to do with it??
Please Help! Any information is appreciated!
badurl.grandstreetinteractive.com is killing me! I bought a used laptop at a yard sale (for cheap) and I apparently got what I paid for. How can I get rid of this virus without being able to connect to the internet? Everything on there is expired.
Okay, so my laptop is giving serious problems. First of, I have an Acer Aspire 3050 with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. One day back in the beginning of August I restarted my computer (which I rarely do, I prefer to hibernate) and when it turned back on… boom! It wasn’t working. I tried doing everything, from restoring it to a week before, un-installing programs and even running virus scans. I should note that I did all that in Safe Mode since the laptop was having trouble opening programs, the mouse pointer would flicker when I ever I tried moving it, whenever I closed the monitor the laptop would remain on but not show anything on the screen, and it was literally unable to turn off, restart, or hibernate. I would have to take off the battery in order to get it to turn off. After about a week of not using it cause of the problems, I turned it on and it was working just fine again. At the end of August I restarted the computer again and the problems came back. This time, however, I realized that the problems would disappear if I removed the battery and just left the laptop connected to the external power. Of course, putting the battery back in would result in problems all over again. I’m not sure if the problem is with the battery of with the drivers cause the battery does what it has to do. It charges and when the computer is not going through problems I can disconnect the external power and the laptop continues working just fine.Additionally, the battery system icon that appears at the bottom right corner of the screen doesn’t appear when the computer is working but when it isn’t working it is there but it indicates that either the battery isn’t in (when it is) or that it isn’t charged (when it is).
So what do you guys think? Is the problem with the battery or with some driver? Or is it something else? And if it is with a driver how can I fix it?
I should mention that the computer worked perfectly fine in Safe Mode. Another reason why I am unsure that the problem is with the battery.
Holding down the power button did nothing at all. The computer would not turn off. It seemed like it tried but would stop half way and then stay that way. I sometimes gave it hours to turn off on its own, still it wont. I will reemphasize that I never removed the battery and the external power at the same time. When I took out the battery and let the computer connected to the external power then it would turn off the way it should. And I am only using my mouse pad that came with the laptop, nothing else.
