My Gates laptop came with the media movie maker. Quicktime somehow got onto it and now I can not use the movie maker, does not recognize .MOV file. Researching it, I see Apple got a virus in Quicktime. I can not change the video files to other formats, will not work. Does BestBuy stores or someone have a way to wipe it out or change it to windows media player as it was originally? Am I just going to have to buy the Quicktime Pro to use there movie maker? Will Muvee movie player work reading these Quicktime MOV files?

    No.
You will have to either uninstall Quicktime, and then run a very good anti-virus programme. Then just reinstall the free Quicktime.
    Usually works.
On the other hand, may be just a matter of file type associations and you need to redo those.

Since neither Moviemaker nor WMP read .mov there’s no point in
    taking it away from it.

And what research was that, the pull-a-theory-out-of-my-a$$ type of research?

You probably installed iTunes. iTunes comes with Quicktime. Quicktime will self-register the .mov and .qt file extension BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT IT WAS WRITTEN TO WORK WITH.

I don’t know anything about movie maker but I doubt a microsoft product would readily work with apple codecs.

Try using the Apple Support website, at http://www.apple.com/support first. If that doesn’t work, try and de-install Quicktime on your computer. It works by simply trashing the Quicktime application, then emptying trash. If that doesn’t work go to an Apple Store and ask one of the experts there – they should be able to help you. My other recommendation would be to download a ‘Windows Media Converter’ (there are many available on the internet, most of them free – but be careful – some might be viruses) which takes Quicktime files, and turns them into Windows Media Player files.
