I personally, do not like Norton or McAfee.
There are better and free programs. See Below for Good Information.
You can go to cnet.com and click on download. These are Free.

Virus Protection– 2 programs of virus protection will conflict with each other and will actually cancel out the protection. .

Running Spybot and Defender, with EITHER Avast or Avg (great Free virus protection
programs ) will keep a computer in good working condition.

Windows Defender and Spybot are 2 really good Spyware Programs.

Links Below are Programs that WILL Help. They are FREE.

I have Both AVG and Spybot on my computer.

    AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.519

    Spybot – Search & Destroy 1.5.2

    Avast
    http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registrati...

    Ccleaner

There are alot of $ anti-virus and Internet security programs out there,
ie: Norton, McAfee, Panda, Bitdefender. If you would like to pay $
then get Kaspersky. I feel that is the best for your money.

    Hope this helps.

    Good Luck

avg or anti vir guard i believe its called. go to cnet reviews then take it from there.they both are free……..

  • Blue says:

Use the free Avira for anti virus, use ad aware for anti spyware. Also, use a firewall (comodo), ccleaner, Firefox instead of IE. All these are free & excellent programs.

go to cnet.com. —— check out the downloads in the security section.. some good programs are—– spy-bot search and destroy…. ad-aware…… malaware bytes…….. AVG……. super anti spy….. but Cnet is a good place to start ,,you can read reviews and check the rating of the software before you download it. But remember that you should only use one Anti-Virus program!!because they dont work well together. You can have as many anti-spy programs that you wish.3-5 is good, Also, remember to update all of your programs at least once a week and run the scans!! : ) All cnet download are free.——————– be careful of just clicking on links to download software, its best to go to a reliable source.

All the software below is completely free and safe to use.

If your infection is proving very hard to remove download then update Avast and run a boot-scan (click schedule boot-scan and restart your PC).

A good antivirus that is free is Avira Antivir Free
    http://www.avira.com/en/downloads/
You may only have one antivirus

But I have a sneaking suspicious that some wierd programs wants to make you buy something. Don’t it is fake and useless they use scare tactics to goat you into buying the product.

    Antispyware/antimalware
This can remove the rogue software I was talking about above.
You can have more than one antispyware(including Malwarebytes)

Another tool to remove rogue software
Use this on safe mode and follow the instructions

i dont think that there is such a thing as a best antivirus/ antispyware software out there.

    try these from: http://thefreewarejunkie.com/2006/05/home-computer-freeware-list-6-23-06.html
Antivirus – Avast 4.8 Home, AVG 8.0, – You should NEVER surf without some form of AV installed. Avast! is nice because it can scan your system for viruses while the screen saver is active, and protects your PC against multiple vectors. Honorable mentions: Avira AntiVir. Want free AV for a Windows server? Use ClamWin (no real-time scanner, so you will have to run scheduled scans, but it works VERY well).

Spyware Protection – Ad-Aware 2008 (not a real-time scanner), Spyware Terminator* – Spyware sucks, and these tools do a great job of cleaning them up. I would recommend installing both utilities, using one to clean-up after the other.

for my security, i am using microsoft’s onecare – it’s not free, but i got a free perpetual account, so it’s free for now. it does practically everything – cleaning, updating, checking, defragging, and maintaining my system.

i also use spybot search and destroy, spywareguard, yahoo’s antispyware (the older version is better than the new one), and spyware blaster – these are all free.

i also change my hosts file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc; so, that i cannot accidentally end up in a website with viruses or spywares.

i also use 2006 version of trend micro pc-cilliin in my other pc’s. i am using an expired subscription – i cannot update it automatically but it is easy to update it manually. i like it bec it’s pretty good with its real-time scanning which most free antivirus do not have.

you can also see what the most popular downloads are – a good starting point
personally, i have not had any anti-virus program for 2 years and have had no trouble – but i am a bit of a computer geek and i know what to watch for and how to get rid of it without anti-virus software
