I recentely asked a question regarding not being able to download avg because it said that i had anti-virus installed after i tried removing mcafee
the most intreegin answer i got was this :
i am sorry to break it to you but mcaffee embeds itself into the os and in the registry so it can not be removed be a virus, but it is most likely not functional, and you can use avg but fyi, your computer will run like crap becuase mcafee will try and update and stuff like that all the time and just do weird things, i would recomend formating the hard drive and starting over
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;;
now i would like some information on this
i dont want to go ahead and do something that jeopidises my computers performance
surely it must be removable or else it would be illegal, as when i bought the laptop i had no inclanation to be apart of mcafee and had wishes to use a free anti-virus like avg 8.0 free edition.
maybe i should say that to pc world see what they say..
what is my best route.
i cannot download avg because it says i have already got anti-vuris installed, but i have done all i can to remove it, add/remove , and the mcafee removal tool
There are no files to do with Mcafee in the list off programmes Nick…
I have checked by searching by the publisher to and there is no mcafee..
When i try to download avg it says attention you have anti-virus installed, but i have removed all related mcafee from add/remove hardware…

Install CCleaner to get rid of setting left behind by McAfee.

Base on the detection rates. You should get Avast or Avira.

AVG have lower detection rates and version 8 slow down your PC.
I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4.8.
It now protects against spyware, rootkits, and other forms of nonvirus malicious software.
Best of all, it’s free for personal use.
Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do
a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove all viruses on your PC.
Even those stubborn trojan viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.

Its good to see someone else knows AVG is better than Mcafee! but anyway down to getting rid it!
All computers come with a free trial antivirus, especially if you buy them from PC World, which is one of many reasons i hate PC World but anyway, they are normally easy to uninstall unless its Mcafee or Norton you are using, which are both awful programmes and slow down your computer majorly, worse than viruses really!
Mcafee isnt just the main ‘Mcafee’ programme youll see in your Add/Remove list, there will be other software associated with it that will be in the list as well, such as ‘Mcafee Updater’ or some other things that you’ll need to remove as well, this can be a real pain!
Also if your not sure what other software Mcaffe might have associated with it, go to your Add/Remove programmes and let me know everything thats on there by updating your post with the info here on this page, and i’ll tell you what else you need to remove,
