i am planning on getting new 2010 anti virus software and haven’t decided which to pick. My top 3 are Kaspersky, Bit-Defender, and Norton. I am also wondering i bought software for 1 year but for 3 computers but does that mean i have a year for 3 computers? so i could get 3 years out of it?

Personally I would go with McAfee, Kaspersky/Norton 2010.

When buying a license for 1 year, it will only last one year.
-Despite you may be able to run it on 3 different computers.~

avg free is a free anti-virus that works just as well as kaspersky and bit-defender (and a LOT better than norton). Plus it’s free. which is awesome.
malwarebytes is not anti-virus, but a virus killer. If you ever see any suspect behavior on your machine, or just once a month or so, run a full scan and it will clean out any virus/spyware/malware present.
paid anti-virus programs are generally a waste of money and system resources. They bog down the machine needlessly and should be avoided.

edit: it should be noted that you should never run more than 1 anti-virus program at the same time. This can cause HUGE system performance degradation as the two anti-virus programs each see another program with deep access to the system and assume it’s a virus. they’ll then work to kill eachother off and cause system crashes and vulnerabilities.

Norton is good. But you must have faster computer for bitdefender.

I would not bother getting any anti virus software there are that many viruses being pushed out every week that the anti virus data base which is by the way stored on your computer is so big now which is running into gigabytes it is slowing systems down to a crawl,

it was recorded in 2008 that 253.4 million systems were infected with malware viruses and this year the comparable volume for 2009 is almost double at 491.2 million… And Windows zombies levels (head count) to be somewhere around hundreds of millions.

well DO NOT get Norton, it blows big time. you know it rally perplexes me why people waste their money on this stuff with such great free programs available, the old saying about getting what you pay for may apply to most other things but not security software, Avira and Comodo, both free and both awesome products, all you need to stay safe online.

Well I’ve used Norton and Kaspersky 2010. They’re both awesome.
I did like Kaspersky a bit better because it has more security features.
As for detection and removal, they’re both outstanding.

I did try BitDefender. And I have no clue of what the hell happened with it. It just made my computer so darn slow that I had to uninstall it. It comes with all of these useless features that just drain your resources.

To answer your second question. Once you validate the software it starts the 365days count. You can install it on other two computers at the same time but the clock will keep running according to the first install regardless. And no, it’s only 1 year.
