it sounds like a virus or a rogue software that you may have accidently downloaded from internet.

your best option is to run the recovery/rescue disk that you got with the laptop and reinstall the whole thiing.

    good luck my friend.

Yes do this. Start>Run> type msconfig. Startup Tab, disable all (except your virus protection), then go to Services Tab, check the box that has Hide all Microsoft Services. Then uncheck the boxes, except for your virus protection again. Hit OK, Restart.
Then you are starting your computer with nothing running except your virus protection. If it is still at 100% when you startup then you have a faulty computer and need to send it back,. I’ve worked on a few laptops and desktops that had the same issue, but we did have to send them back because it was not a service or startup item causing the issue. Good Luck :-)

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to pull up the Task Manager. Go to Processes and scroll down until you see what process is eating up your CPU cycles (under CPU). Once you have the process thats slowing your computer down, then either end the process, but it will start again the next time you start the laptop. Or you can go to Start-Run, then type in msconfig. This opens up the System Configuration Utility. Go to Startup, and scroll down until you see the name of the process, or the program that controls that process. Uncheck it, then restart your laptop. Problem solved.
Some malware and viruses block you from doing these things. If that happens, then you need to download malwarebytes malware removal programs. Install it, then do a quick scan. It will detect the nasty program, and you can eliminate it.
    Good luck.

You should definitely scan for spyware to make sure your computer is not infested. This can cause mutiple programs and process to be loaded into CPU access and RAM thus making your CPU usage high. However, you should monitor it to make sure that the spikes in usage are temporary or constant. Constant would indicate a virus. Monitor it by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del. This brings up the task manager. Check out the link below to see visuals.

Here are some ways to cut down down on CPU access
Disable the amount of services running in the background– You can do this by altering your computer configuration. Here is how:
    1. Open your Start menu.
    2. Click Run
    3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
    4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
    5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
    6. Click "OK"

If you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events has
a key. and that key need your PC’s resources. So, if you should clean this up. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it. Also your Operating System will constantly try to fix these errors which cause spikes in CPU access.

You should also check to see what programs are running in your task manager. If you see a program like svchost.exe. You may need to clear this program in order to return your computer back to normal CPU access time. There are several ways to do this. Here is one of them.
